Running Microsoft Access 2003. Compact and repair is something we run at least once a week on our main DB, we have at any given time 15 people entering/deleting data. This is really messing with my head as to why this is happening. I did create a new section of forms but that was a simple "save as" and changing a few queries. Thats the only thing that I did.

The forms "add new record" and also the delete records become greyed out after running the DB utility "compact and repair". Any Ideas??

Compact and Repair, at least in my 2000 version, makes a copy of the file and renames it when the operation is done. Having the file open during that time, may be causing the problem.

Are any of the 15 people in the mdb while it is compacting/repairing? Ask them to be out of the file and/or compact and repair either before or after their scheduled time to be at work in the mdb. It is suggested on microsoft.com to make compact and repair a part of the back up routine.

I'm not familiar with 2003, but The link below discusses file security on a volume that uses NTFS file system. Maybe the mdb security is being changed in the process.
