I think we evolved. I also think we are more than just physical beings. I know from my own first hand experiences that humans, and probably animals, have a non-physical essence within us. I cannot prove this over and over in a lab, but I know it to be true. I think this spiritual nature is universal, meaning that all expressions and faiths are 'true' and valid as the spirit tends to conform with our expectations of it. If it will be different to each observer, it's not scientific, right?
My spiritual practice is not a matter of conformity. I have no community. My faith is between me and the Divine, however I decide to veiw it. The guy above me is obviously talking about religion as a social instittution. In which case he probably means Middle Eastern cults like Christianity and Islam where conformity and converting new followers is an important thing.

Yes, of course! Duh!
But, people have a basic need to defer to a higher power.
That power we call GOD. GOD is known by a 1000 names in 1000 different languages. Regardless of what language is used GOD is just GOD.
What differences there are between the various Christian Churches, Jewish Churches ???, Islams various sects is only in their Dogma.
Basically, all religions believe in goodness for man and the fight against wrong.
Unfortunately what is right in one culture is not necessarily right in another & vicea versa. Such is the nature of the worlds different cultures. This has nothing to do with Race.
Religion cannot be proven. It is a belief.
How fanatical about their religion a person becomes depends on the depth of that belief, regardless of what religion it is.
So. I believe that religion is mear superstition, but it is a nessessary evil.

first of all, no matter how many times someone says it; science has NOT proven the process of evolution, except in the most minute scale.
there is NO evidence of intermediate forms of a species between it's cosmic menopause.
I can offer you the proof of existence in the form of Jesus, mohommed, moses, king david, king saul, king solomon, john the baptist, the disciples, etc.
i can also offer you the proof of archeology, which has shown the existence of civilizations, nations, cities, rivers, deserts, etc. many of these cities and nations are still inhabited today.
i have the proof and more is out there on the SCIENCE websites, if you will just open your eyes and your mind to accept that which is real.
oh yeah, i do admit to not being able to prove the divine nature of God or Christ, but with all of the other evidence, the very small leap of faith is nothing to one who believes in the greater good, in the form of the Creator and Christ the Saviour.

Religion is base on faith as well as fact. During Katrina I was
praying to my dead grandparents to protect me and mine. I
asked them guard my home and protect it from harm. When the
storm passed and I was able to return home what I found was nothing short of a miracle. Two young tress with long slender
branches had caught a tall pine tree and kept that tree from crashing down into my home. Those branches, to me, represented arms holding up that tree. The arms of my grandmothers. This may seem silly to you but that thought brought great comfort to me when I needed comfort the most.
In my opinion, this is what religion is all about. Something to
give people strength to face all of life's obstacles. I am an agnostic.

Indeed, God is supernatural in many aspects. That is why it's impossible to disprove His existence. Man's mind is designed to operate in the natural dimension.
The fact that we can't flap our arms and fly doesn't mean that birds can't fly. Just because we can't explain the supernatural doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. Some things just have to be accepted at face value.
