Is anyone else on the depo-provera shot? I am and I was just wondering how it affects other women. I used to be on the pill but got pregnant on it so I have been using depo since my baby was born almost 8 months ago. I'm just interested in how it affects other women. And your opinions on it. To me it is more convenient then taking a pill every day.

I did not have ANY periods while taking the shot.
I went off of it and bled for 14 weeks NON STOP heavy at times.
I decided to continue taking it.
It does weaken your bones so make sure you take a calcium supplement.
I did notice that when the shot was given in my right hip my right ovary became enflamed and really sore for a day.
My sex drive has diminished quite a bit and I am having some dryness issues as well.
SO, I guess in the end I wish my husband would just get his vasectomy so I can get off the shot but it is nice to have no periods.
I have had no other complications.

I was on this shot for two years after the birth of my first baby. yes it's convenient, and it's nice not to have to have a period (some still get it, I didn't) but I did not lose 1 oz of baby weight till I went off that shot 2 years later (I've heard people say it makes you gain weight, but I didn't; just couldn't lose it. The weight came off real quick when I got off the shot though) Also, it killed my sex drive completely. Gone, bye-bye, out the window. I would never take it again, I'd rather take the damn pills.

I had one child and knew we wanted to wait about 3 yrs after his birth to try for more.I couldn't remember to take a pill everyday so I opted for the shot. I spotted every other 3 months. The off 3 months I did not bleed at all. One year before I got pregnant with my daughter I got off the shot because it takes one year to get out of your system. After my 2 children were born I got "fixed".

I used to be on it too..i gained like 20 pounds. And, I think it is bad to interfere and change your body that much that you don't have regular periods. I use the pill now.

I used to be on it, and it was not a good thing. i mean it worked, I bled the first two months and my hormones were just crazy. I didn't gain the weight that a lot of people do though.

Depo made my friend very fat. I know another girl who didint have problems at all. If it works for you keep taking it.
The only thing that I found great was the patch. Ortho Evra.
