One camera does NOT fit all. Generally everything by Kodak and Canon is worth the price, but even then you'll have to know what you're looking for.
* How much are you willing to spend?
* Are you looking for something you can wrap you hands around or do you want a camera you can keep in your shirt pocket?
* Do you want to zoom in over huge distances, or is it just for around the house and street photography (you'll have to know for the optical zoom)?
* How big do you want to make prints (you'll need to know for the mega-pixels)?
* Do you want advanced features for more control?
* Is there anything special that it has to do really well, like macro photography, low light photography, etc.
Even if you can answer just 2 or three of these things, it would narrow down the selection enormously (either for us of for a salesman).
