I know it's not easy, but I'd say tell them. If they love you, and im sure they do, they'll accept you for who you are. At the end of the day you can't help who you fall in love with. Good luck!

They only say this because they are ignorant of the ways of gays/lesbians. Remember this, People often fear what they don't understand, and they often want everyone to be just like them (safety in numbers).
I would say ignore the jokes, because it is not a good indication of how your parents would react. Think back to a real situation where something big happened - a major crisis - and how your parents reacted? Were they judgemental? Did they bark for a while then step right into problem solving mode. Did they demonstrate strong support for the person with the problem, etc?
These little incidences are a better prediction of how your parents might react.
Next, consider when is the best time to tell them. It is important that you tell them now? What else is happening in their lives at the moment?
A lesbian friend of mine 'came out of the closet' subtlely, she just kept bringing her girlfiend over to her parents for weekly dinners, until one day her parents asked her and she replied affirmatively.
I think it might help if you start having conversations with your parents about what's going on in other aspects of your life. and then slowly ease them into this situation. Take your time, What you say, when you say it and how you say it are the 3 biggest considerations.
Once it's out, it's only going to be uncomfortable for a while. Then everyone will remember who you are, how much they love you and they'll accept you just as you are. But do make allowances for them, take baby steps, and ease them into your life.

When you make that decision to tell them, and there will come a time, prepare yourself for the worst.
That's not to say that the worst will happen, but by preparing yourself, you will be able to accept the consequences.
So! What is the worst thing that can happen?
You could be disowned and asked to leave their home. Unfortunately this does happen. I knew a girl who lost her family. Both parents never had any further relationship with the daughter. They both died, at different times, never really knowing her. Be prepared with a place to live.
She was a wonderful young lady. They missed all that.
If they accept you for you, as a person, a human being, as their daughter, then your worst fears did not come to pass.
I have a grand daughter who....Yes!
I have known thousands of gays, in every walk of life, of many races and nationalities.. I do not believe it's a choice. Some have told me that they knew at 5-6 years of age.
For myself, It never entered my mind.
