Do women who are forced to cover themselves up resent/envy women who don't?

Wow, what a response in only a few hours!
I was talking mainly about burkhas but there are other similar garments, and it's not only women who are forced to cover up. Men are often required to cover everything except hands and faces in some countries.
Some women are forced to cover up not only by their husbands, but also by their fathers and brothers.

I have heard first-hand that most of these women find it liberating, because they are not subjected to the scrutiny that western women face every time the head outside their front door. It is sad that our culture puts so much pressure on women to look a certain way -the burkha could be viewed as a blessing rather than curse.

woooa, hold your horses. whos forcing who to cover up?

for me its a choice but that may be coz i live in australia. ok, so sure in some countries that is the case but it shouldn't be that way. as for a western perspective its entirely choice, and i choose to cover up.

maybe they do resent em, maybe they dont. aint being forced, wouldnt know. but anarchy isn't exactly great either. the western world simply has no morals, no offence, so people are walking around half naked anyway.
and it aint freedom either, coz when women do cover up they're frowned upon. men want them to dress that way, but they tell them more subtly. isnt that also being forced?

I can't understand why in the UK we allow this. We have sex equality laws. If a religion is forcing only the women and not the men to cover themselves, surely this breaks those laws.

What you're talking about is religion - people, i.e. grown women, have a choice as to which religion they follow - and in which case, the clothes dictated by that religion, they CHOOSE to wear - if they do not believe in the religion, and do not believe they should cover up, they won't comply. Likewise, a woman who believes in the a certain religion that means she must cover up, means she will cover up because that what she believes in.

its all a matter of choice, so they cannot be jealous of something they choose not to do.

I get the impression you are talking about the burkha for Islamic women.
Think about topless and covered women on a beach and re-ask your question. It may answer itself.

i dont feel that as many are as forced to cover up as many believe .. i feel they do it with respect for their religion
actually .. strangely enough i envy woman who do cover up .. i think their garments are beautiful but also i feel that they do not have the need to look a certain way to the outside world ..
this is something i feel i am lacking , the confidence not to be a certain way , the confidence to love myself without having to show the world just how good i can look
these woman must be very confident in who they are , without having to dress up and slap make up on their face to feel good
good on them i say

i don't think women who are forced to cover up resent women who don't because these women are brought up in a religion from an early age as to them it is normal way of life to respect your body and for no other man to see only the one they marry. As for women who don't cover up,if it's not in their religion then it is their choice if they feel confident in showing their bodies off to the public eye

I think anything is fine as long as they are doing it for the right reasons. Convention is a strange thing. Women either cover up or uncover because of peer/male approval which is wrong.
