to give two seperate temperatures, here must be two sensors, usually one is inbuilt into the display the other is either connected by wires or some form of remote (eg wireless/radio or infrared - normally wireless) wireless devices are easier to fit but will require periodic battery changes, there is also a risk that you may get interference from other devices using the same frequency

the sensor works by putting a known current / voltage through a component which applies a resistance dependent on heat (usually the more heat the higher the voltage the smaller the resistance. by comparing the supply voltage to the voltage after the sensor you can calculate the temperature against a reference

Sandi~

What is the name/model number of the weather station?

Your weather station has the capability to monitor the temperature not only from the base station (inside) but also from a remote sensor (outside). The battery operated remote sensor communicates with the base station via radio signal (at 433Mhtz).

Is it giving you outside temp readings already? If so, then there is a small sensor box outside somewhere, probably mounted on a north-facing wall with a few screws or double-sided tape.

Some old weather stations actually had a long thin wire that you had to string out through a window/hole in the wall to get it outside.

The device has an inside and outside sensor, which is a device (probably a thermistor) whose electrical resistance changes with temperature, this change is converted to the displayed temperature. if you look behind the display unit you will probably see a thin wire going outside to sense the external air temp.which will shoot up if the sun shines directly onto it! If there is no wire then there will be a wireless sensor somewhere outside.
