I highly suggest getting your tattoo in non permanent ink. I have two tattoos and though i do not hate them it is like wearing the same clothes over and over again. You might think you want them now but as you grow older you will change and to remove them is a pain, very expensive, and potentially scaring. I hope you take advice from someone who has been there and done that.

As for your skin care use Vitamin A, D, E, and Zinc ointment if you can find it. Try a health food store. This will speed up the healing process and help you to avoid a nasty scar, and I have seen them from people who do not use care. If the place you are going to is professional they will also give you a salve. Just be diligent in your upkeep and you should be fine.

EDIT: And if you are absolutely resolute on getting a tattoo in permanent ink make sure you choose a picture you can live with for the rest of your life. I have seen some really terrible tattoos. Make sure you go with a professional that has a portfolio. Remember its the only body you got. Be good to it.

Make sure it is something that you can live with for the rest of your life, and don't get any names. Unless it is of you child or family member, because boyfriends and husbands come and go.
When I got my first tatt it was on my ankle. They told me I need to buy this certain cream to put on it, but Vaseline worked just fine.
Keep it hydrated, no sun until it is healed then use sunscreen on it. The thing about alcohol, your not supposed have any in your system because it thins your blood. After it stops bleeding your fine.
Good luck, hope everything goes well.

Yeah avoid the sun/tanning bed, alcohol, pain pills. Some people get lighthead so if you do or might be one of those people its good to eat something like a sandwich before getting it done. Relax they really don't hurt. Make your who is doing your tattoo wears gloves, and the needles and equiptment are all sterail. They will/should do one small line to show you what it feels like then they will continue. If you feel you need a break let them know and they will stop.
Depending on where you get it at you will want to shave that area unless you want them to do it for you. Once you get it done follow the directions the artist gives you. Don't listen to what other people tell you for the aftercare cause not all ink is the same and different atrist have different aftercare instructions.

wish you said how old you are. if you are under 18, don't do it until you're absolutely positive you can live with what you are getting for life unless you have enough money to have it removed. just like marriage, its easy to get, and a pain to get rid of.
do NOT get it anywhere it can't be covered up. never get one on the hands or arms, or neck. they can be sexy if its a "nice" tattoo and in the right location.
yes, do not drink any alcohol when you go get it. you'll bleed more.
avoid the sun afterwards. the tattooist will recommend what to do. usually just soap and water, and some type of ointment. do NOT pick at it, it will itch like crazy as it heals.

make sure that this is what you want.day after it is done.put an anti.ornament on it about 3 times a day and in about one week you can stop the ornament.after your bath then put some baby oil on it.this will help with the healing proses.good luck.ask if thy keep the needles.later you may want a nutter one.some places keep them for 6 months.that way you want have to buy new ones.

Well you can ask 100 people about tattoo aftercare and you will get 100 different answers. I usually wash the tattoo off a few hours after they are done with a soap like dial... then pat dry and apply a non scented lotion like lubriderm every few hours... Best bet is to ask your tattoo artist... When its healing it will itch like crazy... and you already know the obvious...Good Luck!!

Don't do it.
At least check the tattoo artist out before hand for health standards. You don't want to add a life long health problem along with the problem of a being stuck with a tattoo for life.

Not much to do before you get one except to know what and where you want it. Make sure you get after advice from your tattoo artist. Get the after-care kit if they have one. I have bought the Tattoo Goo line of after care and it works.
