Hi, looks like you will be probably be looking at Pratunam to do this. Pratunam is where the clothing wholesale centre is. A cheap and good one is Baiyoke Suite, sister hotel to Baiyoke Sky. Baiyoke is the cheaper with a night stay between 1000-1200baht. Best thing is that the lower floors are all clothing shops. Walk out the hotel and you are in the wholesale centre already. So you are smack in the heart of the clothing shopping .

The wholesale centre sells clothes at quite low prices especilly if you buy in bulk. But if you find the quality not to your satisfaction, the buildings nearby also house clothing shops and some even make for overseas export. Definitely much better quality but expect a small increase in price compared to the shops in the wholesale centre.

If you want a cheaper hotel, Indra Regent is also in the vicinity. Or First Hotel for an even lower rate. Amari Watergate is a 5-star hotel and will cost you between US$150-200 a night. All these are good if you do not want to travel far to shop. But if there are no rooms, consider D'ma Pavilion, Bangkok Palace and Eastin hotels, located a short walk away.

Check www.asiarooms.com for more details if you like.

I would recommend that you stay near Pratunam Market in Bangkok. Other than the market, it is surrounded by many shops in shopping centres (with and without air conditioning) around the market. The sheer number of shops for clothes, shoes, accessories etc will overwhelm you. The quality and choice here for clothes stuff is also generally much better than Chatuchak Weekend Market or Suan Lum Night Bazaar(but still go to see and experience). They don't call pratunam market the clothes wholesale area for no reason. You can also just buy one piece, or 3 pieces up for better discount.
The other clothes wholesale place called bobe tower at a different place is for big wholesalers who buy by the cartons worth.
If you can afford it stay at Amari Watergate. Baiyoke Sky is also good, especially with the view from the top floors.
For more budget and value for money, a 3* hotel nearby recommended is D'Ma Pavillion. but choose deluxe room.(Relatively new, clean, quiet, food stalls and small supermarket nearby)
Stay around this area and you can return your purchases to your hotel as well as getting a mid day shower and rest to in the hot and sweaty weather.
Take a taxi to MBK and around it for a bit more shopping if you want more choices (a bit more pricey but still cheap)
Enjoy your shopping trip. Bring extra luggage for your purchases. Cheers!

Now, I really prefer to buy everything from Thailand now, this is where I buy my stuff, for $20 "Personal Shopper Bangkok" (Google it I don't have the exact link) will go shopping for you (anything), cheap and good, I would love to find the same cheap service in Paris or New York !!!

really depends on your budget.

for a budget hotel (clean and includes a breakfast set though not buffet), i'd recommend
Samran Place

for a hotel near to major shopping centres, i'd recommend
Arnoma

i have not stayed here personally but i did much research on the hotel location and would very much like to try it out. unfortunately, it was beyond my budget.

this website has one of the hotel best rates around, and service is prompt and good:

clothes wise, you can go to Platinum Shopping Mall, Pratunam Market (opposite each other), Suan Lum Night Market, etc. and in fact, plenty vendors on the streets as well.

Best place to stay depends on your price range.. best place to buy clothes, for most items would be Pratunam.. it is a wholesale market but they sell retail too..
