I`m going to Thailand in October. What clothes do i need to take? Is it cheaper to buy there?

The Thai climate is tropical and characterised by monsoons. There is a rainy, warm, and cloudy southwest monsoon from mid-May to September, as well as a dry, cool northeast monsoon from November to mid-March. The southern isthmus is always hot and humid. Major cities beside the capital Bangkok include Nakhon Ratchasima, Udon Thani, Nakhon Sawan, Chiang Mai, Surat Thani, Phuket and Hat Yai (Songkhla Province).

Accordingly, you should take cool clothing. You should be able to buy what you need there if necessary as Thailand has a large textiles and footwear industry. If you are a businessman planning a week in Bangkok, you will need lightweight suits and cotton shirts for a week. Short sleeved shirts are acceptable for most restaurants. I would take several changes of clothing as many people bathe three times a day. You don't want to make a bad impression.

Clothing in Thailand is cheaper than the west but you might want to be careful if you are bigger than the average Thai.

its extremely cheap to buy clothes in Thailand. its roughly 70baht to the £1 so you can live like a king and buy new stuff every day. I would bring a near empty suitcase if I were you.

Depending on where you are staying, if you go to the islands off the south east, like Samui, Pha Ngan (where they filmed The Beach) etc, they sell loads of clothes in all the street markets that they have there. Bangkok also has a huge street market so you will be spoilt for choice.

Their styles are very beach orientated and they do loads of fake Diesel wear and any other labels that you care to buy. Some of them are good, some not so great but if you have good negotiating skills, you can get these for less than £2!

Make sure that you do barter with them, they kind of expect it, and they are extreme experts in the art of negotiation and its all part of the fun for them! I would start your price at half of what they tell you the actual price is otherwise you will be royally ripped off.

It should rain quite a bit but it will still be hot and sticky, so just take a few basic light summery clothes and avoid long trousers and socks etc, its still hot at night mostly
Buy a decent umbrella when you get there they are very cheap 100 baht maximum and take it with you if your not quite sure how long you will be out for or how far from base you might end up, as those storms can be on you in a matter of minutes, and they are tropical storms, so very heavy.
A lot of the fake gear is reasonably good quality, and they do have all sizes and colours, always barter on market stalls but generally the shops are fixed price.
theres an enormous range of cheap clothing, just be careful about washing it with your quality stuff, as the colour sometimes runs, you can get laundry done really cheap, but dont do it in the hotels, there are shops advertising a price per kilo, and they turn it round fast.
Your first time will be your best in Thailand, beware the dodgy tuk tuk drivers and motorbike taxis, they are mostly con men always use meter taxis, and tell them to use the meter...they are really cheap

Bring only the minimum there. Just go there and buy. You will also get a better price when you buy at least 3 pieces at a time. If you are not very large size, buying clothes in thailand is no problem. Just remember that Thais are quite small built in general with few fat people.

Only bring the clothes on your back...and shop in Thailand, it is so much cheaper to buy clothes over there. You should wear over there a t-shirt, shorts, hat, sunglasses, walking sandels and lots of sun lotion. You should also bring along a little backpack or some thing similar with you, that way you can put waters and small snacks in there, while you are out and about in Thailand. Remember to always keep your belongings close to your body..you should carry you visa too. My dad bought a little cloth fanny pack, that goes under your clothes..and he's been to Thailand over 10 times.

As everybody has already pointed out clothes are cheaper to by in Thailand - just watch the following things.

1. Thai t-shirts shrink like hell - if it looks perfect then it'll be too small in a couple of washes.

2. Many Thai men have more womanly figures than the women - so don't trust the label size, try it on.

Clothes are cheap but beware of their sizes. If you are big then you should take some comfortable light clothes. In the north I recommend Chiang Mai night bazaar, cheaper than BKK, but always haggle with a smile and remember they are trying to make a living. I travelled to the north and down th BKK for three weeks with one bag and I still took too many clothes. Don't worry too much about toiletries and first aid kit, you can buy them there. If you are in BKK with enough time go to Chatujak weekend market. It's big, 8,000 stalls. Take a guide or a compass. So just take as little as possible, in one bag. You are so lucky, I went last October and its fantastic! Everything out there is cheap inc drinks and food so you wont have to take much money! Depending on were youre going there is a shopping centre near Phuket called Central which has so many brand shops and you can pick up the real things for a fraction of the price! Lots will be imitations though. Have a nice time, any room in your suitcase for me! x

Clothes in Thailand are very inexpensive . The clothes bought here are overpriced by about 3x their amount. Bring summer clothes. Thailand has only two seasons - the dry and the wet. If you're going by Oct. that's the wet season. LOts of rains and even floods.

I have a friend who lives in Thailand and he tells me its much cheaper to buy clothes there. When we are going to visit we take very few clothes and buy them when we get there.
