French fries actually have their origins in Belgium - the true home of fries!

So the story goes: American soldiers during the second world war became big fans and really took them mainstream in the states. However, these fried potatoes don't have the same 'ring' to them if they are called 'Belgian Fries'... hence the nomination of French Fries.

The reason they are calle french fries is because when they first hit the market, they were "french cut." They do not have origins in France, nor are they particularly popular with French speaking people.

French is a verb meaning tp cut into strips lengthways.
Therefore a french fry (or more correctly frenched fry) is a potato that has been cut into strips and fried.

Nothing to do with France at all, so no!
