Your first step is to do an online report with the Software and Information Industry Association.

SIIA'S CORPORATE END-USER SOFTWARE PIRACY REPORTING FORM

The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) offers rewards of up to $200,000 to individuals who report verifiable corporate end-user piracy through SIIA's hotline (800) 388-7478 or through SIIA's online Corporate End-User Piracy Report Form.

This program is designed to encourage companies and IT professionals to be software-compliant and to provide an incentive for those who report piracy to SIIA to provide us with the most detailed, accurate and reliable information possible about piracy occurring within an organization. This program in no way affects our long-standing policy of keeping the identity of our sources anonymous (unless required by law to disclose the identity).

Hey Vivik -

Good luck - piracy is a big threat to anyone who wants to make a living by using creativity to help others. Like most of the people in America.

A couple other people already posted good links to contact Microsft and Oracle, so I'll just respond to the people who are attempting to justify piracy.

As America continues to ship low-skilled jobs overseas, we are becoming increasingly dependent on intellectual property rights to make our living. We don't sell to many physical objects any more; we sell things like design and research.

If piracy were to increase to the point that we couldn't sell intellectual property any more, America would become another low wage country.

If software entrepreneurs like me didn't think we can get rich developing innovative new products, we won't take the risks to create new games, servers, etc. Similarly, if drug companies don't think they will make money researching and testing new cures, they won't do it for free.

So, if anyone here doesn't want any new new drugs, doesn't want improved games and software, then just keep supporting piracy.

Piracy kills the golden goose that is saving the American economy now that low skilled jobs have moved overseas.

BTW, as others have pointed out, you don't have standing to sue the company in question, unless you were harmed yourself. In a court of law, only someone who has been directly harmed is allowed to make a claim or sue.

Although you can't take them to court, this site (I don't know who they are - could be a legal outfit specializing in piracy) claims to offer a big reward for reporting piracy. http://www.siia.net/piracy/report.asp?gclid=COfxyN-cn4cCFQ1jDgod3jJR7g

So you are going to ruin an entire business and many peoples lives over what?

Consider the consequences here. Depending on how big the company is and how many items they are pirating they could get dinged for a lot of money. Which will most definitely affect the profitability and stability of the company. If it doesn't completely colapse you will definitely be making a lot of employees lose their Christmas bonuses at the very least.

Microsoft is the richest frickin company in the world. They actually account for financial loses due to piracy. I am sure that the company you want to sue doesn't.

What are your motives? Do you have a grudge or something? Or are you just a do-gooder who can't consider the implication of his own actions.

Step carefully. Don't go forward.

Oracle uses a simple model:
- you can do whatever you want with oracle software
- you only need to pay oracle if you want support for enterprises.

Unlike Microsoft, oracle derives most of its revenue from major enterprises. It does not often chase small fries!

First, whiny baby, confront the owner with that knowledge and evidence of your posting this. Browbeat him for wasting good money on proprietary software and exposing his investment to lawsuits and hefty fines
Encourage him to introduce his staff to Open- Source software that run on linux. OpenOffice, Mozilla Firefox, Gnome and KDE contain and support free or low- cost applications for just about any need.
You just may save your job and get a raise, to boot.
All Hail the TUX Penguin and CopyLefted software!!

You're not the one being harmed, so you can't sue them for anything.

If you must though... just hit up this website and do "the right thing."
