shepherd and flock.
Jesus being the shepherd and we the flock.
The sheep and the cross are both bad symbols, in my view. Takes our focus away from the real issues and the whole point of Christianity.

Jesus was born in a shepherd family. He loves to feed the sheeps. More over, if you study the behavior of sheep you will find that it is a very simple animal of the planet. It also provide milk , wool , flesh and skin to us.

Christ was the LAMB of God. It was not a sheep but a lamb. Lambs were used by the Hebrews as a sacrifice. Jesus was sacrificed for us. Thus He became our Lamb. Hence the symbol.

Well the bible referees to Jesus as the Lamb of God, that is the sacrificial lamb who died for our sins.
The man on the cross, which is still used by Catholics, is to remind us that Jesus died for our sins on the cross.
The empty cross which is used by Presbyterian and others, is to show that Jesus died on the cross and has RISEN to glory. That He is a living God.

Jesus Christ was considered as the Lamb of God.
The sheep was also considered a symbol for meekness and meekness is one of the beatitudes (Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth.).

Because in the Old Testament, it is Jesus is referred to as silent as a lamb to the slaughter, he was handed over to the people. Besides that, the common sacrifice in those days was a lamb, and Jesus was the sacrifice so that we could all be cleansed.
