when i attended the USAFA, we had an interesting presentation on oil supply and alternative energy sources. Why can't we get a true answer about this subject? If there is an urgent need for new energy sources, wouldn't it be logical to have every resource working toward an answer? If there is a need at all.

there is enough oil left for about 50-100 years of consumption ASSUMING we consume it at the same rate than today. (that's only an asteimate. might be 200 years if we find oil somewhere else we haven't looked yet)

HOWEVER, if chinese and indians all want a car like most developped countries, then you can divide how long that supply will last by 2.

MOREOVER, oil will NEVER run out, it will simply get really really really expensive. expensive enough to force not to use your car ever again. and expensive enough to make air travel a part of history. (at least air travel for the masses will be history)

The funny thing is that the american military is only strong because of all the machines it uses : tanks, boats, airplanes. And the vast majority of that military power uses oil to function properly : when oil will run out, the usa will lose all military influence over the world.

PS: Dangerous mindz, your link is indeed very interresting. And right to the point. It sums up all I've heard unitl now. thx

I liked your question a lot.

Whom did you plan to have answer the question? Who knows how many oil and gas fields are still undiscovered?

To answer this question you need to calculate the amount of gasoline and oil are consumed in one year by a depolyed American Military Armada in the countries of Afganistan and Iraq. This computation should include all military flights, naval shipping and fighting ships, total airline flights, material and troop transportation systems both here and there related to the effort. When a set of consumption numbers are arrived at, the question is, "How long will this continue?" "How many more will come up like this?"

I am 63 and expect the supply of oil to last until I die. But, in my wildest dream I cannot fathom the supply of oil lasting much longer than that. So, I would begin today planting as many trees as you can. I would suggest white oak and ash trees as they burn the hottest and the longest. It takes about 50 years to make a really good oak tree, so you better plant it now.

Oil will by no skill run out - it is going to easily grow to be unaffordable (the two in money or in expenses to the ambience) faster or later alternative technologies will surpass the capability/fee ratio of Oil and human beings will basically end making use of it. a hundred years in the past maximum folk nevertheless lit their residences gas or oil because of the fact electrification became into nevertheless very costly. lighting fixtures with electrical energy in the present day is lots lots greater fee effective than lighting fixtures with oil. yet what's being achieved already is basically dropping much less oil. in the U. S. we've probable already exceeded top intake. With the decelerate in the worldwide financial gadget, better efficiencies and possibilities including ethanol we are easily making use of much less oil than 3 years in the past. Use might pass up somewhat as economies and inhabitants strengthen, besides the fact that it is going to at last start to fall returned and pass into secure decline. there's a cost. the possibilities would be greater costly, yet partly offset by making use of better performance. however the fee of transitioning to a submit-oil financial gadget would be much less that the fee of compressing each final drop out of the floor till there is none. so as which will by no skill take place.

Our oil (a non-renewable gas) will eventually run out one day. Although non-renewable gases provide most of our energy, they all do damage to the environment. We have to look forward to using alternative energy resources such as Wind power, Waves, Tides, Hydroelectric, Solar, Geothermal, Food and Biomass (wood). These are all known as renewable energy resources and will NEVER run out. However, the trouble is they don't provide much energy and many of them are unreliable because they depend on the weather. I'd say we will completely run out of oil within 20 years from now, but it won't be too much of a problem.

Oil will not run out. The cost will keep climbing until other energy sources become viable.

How much oil did you buy? The more you buy the less likely you will run out.
