Tread carefully here Sunshine. If you start threatening or making demands, you may inflame this situation. She may take off and smoke anyway. You could find out who supplied the cigarettes to her and inform the Police - it is illegal to supply cigarettes to a minor; or ground her - what good would that do?; or you could let get on with it - you would be neglecting your duty as a Parent. So what do you do? You could try just sitting down with her and raise the subject in a conversation. Don't be judgemental but let her know its hardly appropriate and definitely not healthy. Tell what it can do to her later in life. You could tell her that if she's smoking to be like her friends, tell her they're not doing her any favours by encouraging her to smoke. Tell her she's better than that and try to go on from there.
I'm not saying that it will work but I hope that I have given you something you could try. Good Luck.

If shes been smoking for some time she might be addicted.Try to talk to her and see if she will quit for you, bribe her if you have to.I smoke and worse mistake I ever made, but looking back over thirty years nothing could have stopped me.Dont condone it,dont allow it around you ,dont provide them, but for goodness sake love her no matter what.I see so many moms do so much damage trying to "stop"what teenagers experiment,it hurts the relationship. My mom shut her eyes and held on tight till I grew up and sure she prayed a lot.lol Just let her know how you feel, demand respect around you and hold on tight these next few years, you dont want to loose her and in about 20 more years you'll have your daughter back.lol

I think I did the same thing about that age, but she would go out to smoke. Her brother told me that when she told me she was going to run on the school tract, he would see her sitting on the curb smoking a cigarette. I would just take them from her and throw them away. I also caught her with a bottle of wine in her closet that she was experimenting with her friends. I was shocked. She finally got arrested due to she and her friends running around and knocking on doors and running away in a hotel. She had to do community work and visit a handicapped hospital and help there. She later turned out to be a elder care nurse, and owns her own condo, never married, and happy. Not at all as I thought she would turn out to be, so you just never know. She learned a lot the hard way, because she was diabetic all her life, she wanted to prove she was just as tough as the next person, but that faze soon passed, thank goodness. She is 42 yrs old now and very responsible.

Well she is probably addicted to the nicotine already so she may need to use nicotine patches or chewing gum. She probably started smoking because of her friends. If you can sort of push her towards new friends, that will change the path she is on. Try getting her involved with some nerdy clubs or school sports, keeping her away from the smoker crowd. If you don't do it now, it will be too late.

There's really nothing you can do about it. I would show her a picture of someone's lungs that smoked for years, and then tell her she cannot smoke in the house, and that you prefer she don't smoke in front of you until she's 18.

Change the brand, so that you smoke something really rough (something that even you hate); then tell her that you aren't changing back to menthol cigarettes, until she stops smoking and what WAS nine years old, just isn't the number that you are now thinking of. It's now, more like ninety!

Sometimes kids think smoking is cool...I did when I was a kid...The more you scold the more she will be tempted to continue sneaking around..I know I did, even after Mom beat the heck outta me and made me eat a few cigs butts and all.....If you check with your doctor he can get you pamplets that show the effects of smoking...which will include pics....leave them for her to find..then aproach her after she has had time to see them. Remember, how you were at her age...we were all stubborn at 14. finding out who supplied the cigs and putting a stop to it may help some...but if she really wants to smoke she will find some non-caring adult to get them for her..( whoever it is needs to be reported to the police!!) Good luck

Get a grip...if this is all she is doing, count your blessings. Do YOU or your Spouse smoke? If so, then you have not much right to tell your daughter to stop......
But, guess I have lived in Europe way too long...

Why you have to ask that on here astounds me. Being that you have a 14 year old, you have to be in your late twenties, or early to mid thirites, or possibly, even older. In other words, you shoould already know how to handle a situation like that without refering to Yahoo! Answers. But if you really need some advice, here's some: whup her mutha F'in ***!
