Since he put them away you should be allowed to crack them over his head to see.

By gently holding each egg and rocking it in your hand close to your ear. The yolk in the uncooked ones will move up and down inside the shell, the cooked oned will be solid and no movement will happen.

Its is a subtle difference but if you are patient you should soon feel the difference

good luck

The spin test is best. Lay the egg on it's side and spin it. this is how I test to see if my hard boiled eggs are done. If the the egg is done it will stand up straight and spin without wobbling much at all. When the egg is cooked the material inside is no longer liquid and doesn't move inside the egg and if there is any liquid inside it will wobble and not stand up. Next teach your boyfreind this procedure so he will know what to do with the eggs next time!

Here are all the helpful hints I know for peeling hard-boiled eggs: 1. Keep the newest eggs for frying and poaching; put the ones over 2 weeks old aside for baking. For perfect hard-boiled eggs, the eggs should be a week old up to 2 weeks old. 2. Put the eggs in cold water to cover with 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Put the pan with the eggs and water on the stove and bring the water to boiling. When the water boils, cover the pan and turn off the heat. Let them stand for 15 minutes. 3. Pour off the hot water and replace it with cold water. Let stand until the water is warm; pour it off and replace it with cold water. Or add ice cubes to cool the water down. 4. You can either let the eggs sit in the cold water, refrigerate them before peeling, or peel them while they are still warm. If you peel warm eggs, peel them under running COLD water. If you peel cold eggs, peel them under running WARM water. 5. Start cracking the eggs at the ends of the egg. Then go for the middle. That should do it.

Easy take them out and spin them on the table (careful now!) the hard boiled ones will spin for longer as the uncooked ones will have the insides still runny, or if your still not sure spin it then stop it, the uncooked ones will start to spin again as the insides will still be rotating.

a boiled egg's shell is clean and dry while an uncooked egg has a fresh shell that is transparent when you peep through it where you can even see the yoke inside

Spin it around on a flat surface then stop it and let it go quickly. If it's hard boiled it will stay still if's soft it will continue to turn!!

spin it, then stop it and let it go straight away. a boiled one will not move, the uncooked one will because the fluid inside keeps moving.
