Religion is based on Ignorance and the Fear of the Unknown. Religion thrives on what is called Management by Fear, Intimidation and Terrorism. Period.

I don't understand why religion tells us to fear God. I think if you really believe in God, fear would follow naturally. I would think that the message of religion would be more "fear not". Once you have a right relationship with God, you shouldn't have to live in fear.

whatever religeoun people are, they know there must be a God.and when there is a god they are sure there is prize or punishment for their good and bad acts.bcs if there isnt any, people are hopeless to do good.sometimes instead of encouraging people to be good and enjoy heaven...we think the fear of god and punishment can work better ..so we use it to encourage people to avoid bad behaviour....the truth is this if each person knows where from he comes...why comes to this world and where he really goes to...he himself can decide about fearing or loving god. i have studied somethings about this and i think if we have both feelings ,it would help us live hopeful and with a better manner.sure there are some people who have tried love and they were successfull bcs this love prevents them do sth against what god wants in their religeon...they believe the creation of human and whole world is bcs of the love god has to them...and they try to reach god using this love between their hearts and god.

Because He created everything that you see earth and the universe. Fear means respect. We need to respect Him as our creator. Without Him there are no life, no human being, no everything. He created the rules hoping that all of His Creation will live by His Rules. Unfortunately, only human being rebel and others follow. Just be thankful & respect Him, and stop making fun of Him because God is Real, God Exist! If you want to see God see his creations. Can you explain about all the living thing? Where do they come from? Who created them? Do you think how human body works or how tree grows is amazing? Then God is amazing!

If you met someone who could bend steel bars, but was gentle and friendly, what would your reaction be? If you were confronted with a gang (skinheads, chavs, bikers, whatever) but they were all smiles and helpfulness, how would you feel? What about a lion that behaves like a kitten? A bear as friendly as a pet rabbit?

The point is God is capable of wiping us out of existence with no effort at all, but He doesn't. That deserves respect. That is what awe is. That is what is meant by "Fearing God"

GOD as our Father is to be feared because of ADAM and EVE . Eating of the fruit of the tree of the KNOWLEDGE of GOOD and EVIL. We are to act as children and fear our Fathers punishment for disobedience. But that only applies to the Catholic Religion. mostly. there are a few other fundamentalist sects that preach the same thing.

Fear in the context of the Bible is to be in total awe of God. Like the ultimate respect for what He can do and has done.
