There are plenty of things you can do to prevent acid reflux. Dont eat so close to bedtime. Try drinking a glass of milk or a bowl of ice cream before bedtime and stay away from acidy foods like red sauce or pineapple. Sleep in an postion which allows you to have your upperbody elevated so that gravity will help keep the food down while you sleep. If this doesnt work, I would say try some over the counter medictions such as Tums and if that doeast work you might want to try Prilosec which is basically and over the counter Rinitidine. If all this doesnt help the best alternative is Nexium which is something I can personally vouch for. It's expensive but 1 pill controlled my heartburn for two days. Also, consult your doctor for the best alternative for you because you may have a more serious condition like a faulty gastric spincter that can be cured with surgery. I hope this helps!

You can modify your diet by not eating right before you lie down and avoiding foods that seem to make it worse.

You may have the bacteria which causes ulcers so that probably needs to be ruled out. This usually involves a physician doing an endoscopy and getting a biopsy. If so, it is easily treated with antibiotics.

There are several medications that limit the amount of acid that is produced by the stomach, such as prevacid, prilosec, etc. These are effective.

Panic like symptoms may be a result of getting some of the acid in your lungs or may have nothing to do with it.

The best thing is to see a doctor rather than to try to find your own cure. I found out that my chronic cough, which everyone thought was from smoking was actually a side result of AR. I don't even smoke!! The other thing is if you have erosion of the esophagus it could become cancerous if untreated.

Avoid the following - caffeine, coffee, soda, smoking or chewing tobacco, alcoholic beverages, spicy food

Stress also is a factor.

Haven't heard of anyone having panic attacks, but some people experience really bad nausea.

Depending on how bad your AR is it could take as little as a few days to get relief from symptoms. In other cases you may need to take a pill every day for the rest of your life.

But being able to drink coffee and eating spicy foods again is worth it to me.

So..
I'm a medical researcher. It is widely agreed among physicians and medical paraprofessionals, that initial diagnosis, mostly by using a typical acid reflux symptoms questionnaire, is necessary to ensure the most effective and quick treatment for this condition. Approx 70% of the acid reflux diagnostics that are based on the presence of typical symptoms are accurate. Since acid reflux, also called GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), can cause patients a great deal of discomfort and result in severe complications, it is highly important to know how to identify its symptoms in order to quickly diagnose and treat it.

If you know you have acid reflux you can try this natural program http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=568

I have tried everything for hiatus hernia and reflux (although my reflex is acidic gas not food). All prescribed indigestion medicine did not work. I have found that chewing Wrigleys gum or eating licorice takes away the acidity and I have stopped taking the doctor's precribed medicine.
As to panic attacks - I was having times when my throat constricted and it was very frightening and panicky. I then discovered that it was caused by the throat reacting to the acid gas rising up from the stomach and was not a panic attack at all.
I hope this helps you.

Look dear ,ttt differs if the case is in infants or adults;if infant:good positioning during & after feeding .+anti reflux measures I 'll mention. In adults a-conservative ttt if no complications;instructions to decrease weight, stop smoking,& alcohols....,small frequent meals,up positioning during sleep, feeding before sleep is prohibited.Anti-reflux [domperidone{motilium}for6weeks to 6 months, proton pump inhibitor e.g omeprazole{gastroloc}for 6 weeks to 6 month, surgery in complications & failure of conservative measures. And take care that reflux is not easy as it may lead to many problems as oesophageal stricture,Barrett's oesophagus[precancerous] & resistant upper aerodigestive manifestations.I hope I could help.
