If Mecca was nuked...?

a. Absolve/destroy Islam
b. Start WW3
c. Do nothing
d. Stir up the war against terror everywhere
e. Cause worldwide anarchy

So i'm guessing all those people who say it could never happen are in the a category?

Probably b. Not directly, of course. But the Muslim world would justifiably go apeshit, and countries with Muslim communities would have a reason to become either internally oppressive or to rattle their sabers at the nuking country (I assume the USA) to avoid an insurgency.
Who would anyone want to nuke Mecca? Mecca isn't the problem. That's like nuking Calvary because of Hitler.
We can blame Islam because it's less elusive than the real targets. It's also a convenient way to distinguish "us"from "them", despite the fact that it's not very accurate.
History shows us that when the Romans gutted Jerusalem, they only caused Judaism to spread, adapt and evntually thrive.

The last thing the world needs now is more martyrs on either side.

It wouldn't destroy Islam. Islam is a religion and a state of mind, not an object. It can't be destroyed without destroying its millions of followers. And not all follower of Islam are evil terrorists. Just the radical ones that are hell bent on killing anyone that does not practice their style of religion.

Back to you question though.

If Mecca was nuked by terrorists, I would say D. Governments worldwide would finally take the war on terror a little more seriously, if a terrorist group or nation finally set off a nuke and destroyed a city.

Mark my words, I fully believe that this will happen someday to some city in the world.

E. Anarchy
Because no one would be able to fan tom the horror of a people who would destroy a religious site. Even though the person or group responsible were identified not one person would believe it. The finger of blame would go on for centuries fueled by an inability to deal with the emotional and spiritual upheaval.

plus to destroy one religion would set in motion the chain of events that would destroy ALL symbols of faith.

It seems prudent to threaten this, but not actually carry through with it. That way you instill fear, without necessarily enraging them to action.

depends on who it is blamed on. if any western country is implicated it will unite the muslim world against the west. if it is known that terrorists did it, the muslim world will kill them, then unite against the west while they have the momentum.
