"New state law seeks to end hiring of illegal workers by state contractors.

Governor Bredesen as signed an executive order to move up enforcement of a new state law that calls for state inspectors to monitor the hiring practices of private firms working under state contracts.

The order lays out steps to make sure state contractors follow a law passed in the most recent legislative session to bar state contractors from hiring illegal immigrants.

The law was set to take effect January 1, but the order announced yesterday begins enforcement immediately.

The order criticizes "substandard" enforcement of immigration by federal agencies, a point Bredesen repeated Tuesday during a meeting in which Nashville law enforcement officials pushed for a greater role in enforcement of immigration laws. "

What do you think?

Liz H - you are saying we should want people to have us pay for their children's education when they come illegally, and in such numbers that our own children's education is ruined? Their better life is at our expense. The numbers have become WAY to big to 'absorb'.

So, those contractors cannot make larger profits by paying their illegal immigrant workers less (as they normally do) and making them work longer unpaid hours... now maybe they will be forced to hire Americans who will demand the going salaries with the benefits and the work will get done slower and shittier! What's the point of the question?

I'm glad to see that there is so much tolerance from people for whom life and opportunity are expectations not gifts. So-called 'illegals' are entering your country for a reason - believe it or not, not all coutries in the world are great. What kind of heartless selfish prejudiced bastards resent giving people an opportunity? Those who are so stupid and lazy that they'll probably lose their own jobs!!
