Whatever you feel is fair or both of you discuss it.I would make my own contract too though withholding payment until job is completed.

if you think $1,0000 is going to cover a 3,000 sq. ft. home think again. If you are in Wisconsin about $2500. If California about $3,700 or more. depends where you live. There is still a lot of prepping time involved even with spraying. And if you want a good job done you will pay what the contractor thinks it cost for his time and expertise. Get three different quotes and go with the second highest quote, you do not want just anybody painting your home especially when there is as much to do. Or look for a contractor that will do it anywhere from .60/ft. up to .90/ft. Remember contractor still has to add paint and supplies unless the homeowner agrees to pay for it all then that could lower the overall cost of the painting but homeowner will not get as good a price retail vs. if the contractor bought it himself.
