Will it be easy to learn Farsi?

Arabic is a Semite language, similar perhaps to Hebrew, while Farsi is an Iranian language, part of the Indo-European family. Farsi is similar more to Pashtun or Kurdish, than to Arabic. Although some Arabic words had been borrowed in Farsi, I find that you will have some difficulties learning this language, but then again, same is every time you start studying a new language. Good Luck! ;)

You are of course joking. Arabic is a Semitic language, mostly spoken by Arabs (Iraq, Syria, Jordan and the Arabian peninsula). Urdu is spoken in many parts of Pakistan, it is basically Hindi written in Arabic script - don't kill me, a Muslim Pakistani told me that! Farsi is the same as Persian, it is an Indo-Persian language, varieties of which are spoken by the Kurdish people and some Afghans. Mostly spoken in Iran (formerly Persia). Since Urdu and Farsi are both derivatives of Sanskrit and use the Arabic alphabet, I can see some connection there, but apart from the alphabet I can't see anyway that learning Arabic would help you learn Farsi. Two years is not enough for all three!

i am a native Farsi .yes as the others said Arabic and Farsi are in distinct language families ..our Alphabet is borrowed from Semtic and it s the reason many ppl assume Arabic and persian close ...well they arent even close from the Syntax view (grammer) -but after islam spread over Iran ,many Arabic words came to persian lexicon..and stayed there though many of them has been adupted to our language system..so u may just find th vocabulary sort of
easy ..the phonetics and sounds are close just farsi have some sounds more :(p,ch,g and "j" like french "je")

good luck

BTW : answering Ben who said why u r going to learn Farsi and ..so and so..without prejduce i d like to send this message "
hey brother "u" better go and read history more .i m not going to cite what Arab did to us ..and i m not judging ur civilization but what u say was realy funny .. !! furthermore i found it
foolish to have these arguments in 21st centry
do u feel knowing a language means ur going to give in to THEIR culture and civilization !!?!

they are different, arabic is semitic while farsi is indoeurobian, but using nearly the same alphabet, since you know the arabic letters, this is half the way, plus too many similar wards..its abit easier than arabic, and like other eastern languages, you have to mix with people to hear the right pronouncing ......

No, they are completely unrelated languages. Arabic is an Afro-Asiatic language, Farsi is an Indo-European language. Apples and oranges.

farsi is closer to european languages for grammar and structure (its a indo-european language), but because of proximity and religion many words can be similar between farsi and arabic

You're Arab, sister, why do you bother. Our civilisation is higher and richer. Read Arabic civilisation. It's an endless field
