Try some of these: warm showers, warm packs or cold packs, gentle stretching, gentle massage, neck rolls (make sure you are sitting to avoid dizziness leading to a fall), a rolled up towel under your neck when you lay down, pillow under your knees or between them when you lay down. No hot baths, saunas, or hot tubs.
Generally Tylenol is considered safe for pregnant women, I know I hated taking anything when I was pregnant but my doc said Tylenol was OK so I took it when I had to. (I had hip problems) Ibuprophen is not generally considered safe. Also some ointments or creams such as Ben Gay or Icy Hot say on the label not to use when you are pregnant. Be sure to ask a doctor first.
If nothing helps, maybe you could talk to your doc about physical therapy, I did that and it helped.

See a massage therapist but let her know that she is pregnant. They can do an upper body massage but there are certain areas that can't be worked on on the body because they can cause labor.
Also, heating pads for no longer than 20 minutes at a time.
She needs to lay off the gym work until it heals.

Put a moist towel in the micro wave oven for 4 minutes.
When warm wrap it gently around her neck and cover it with a dry towel.
You can also use a heating pad set at low. Leave it on for fifteen minutes at a time no longer, wait 30 minutes and reapply.

Get a massage. Some massage therapists do pregnancy massages as it is a definite need for some pregnant women. Also apply lots of heat. Good luck!

im pregnant as well, but ive come to realize the best way to relieve cramps and stiffness is one of the hand held massagers. i saw some in walgreens the other day and had to get it. it works wonders. but a hand held massager is the best. but as far as the hot tub suggestions. no hot tubs whirlpools or saunas. they raise your body temp which can be harmful to the baby and skyrocket your blood pressure. good luck. try the massager

i had the same problem when i was pregnant and you can go to a chiropractor and have them pop it back it doesnt hurt and she wont have to take any meds. then she can put warm and cold compresses on it and it might just go a way in a few days if her neck is out of place which is a possibility.

External remedies are okay, i.e., Ben Gay. You can take painkillers like Acetemedophin [sic] and Ibuprophen [sic] in small doses when your pregnant, just make sure you ask your doctor first, to make sure you don't have some special circumstance preventing you from doing so.

No hot tub.. first off.
You can wrap hot towels around the neck though, moist heat being better than dry heat.
Exercises for the next may help loosen it up.
Yoga
Etc...

she should ease up on the gym. it will still be there after she has the baby. After that, she should get a nice, young man to give that neck a good workover.
