Corina, are you really a vet? 36 HOURS between the first and second pup? More than one hour between puppies is often seen as an emergency... 36 hours between puppies is ridiculous... and the temp drop in literature is always under 100 F

Oh, I never answered the question... average gestation is 9 weeks... 63 days... with 60-65 not being uncommon. ;-) Puppies more than one week early often will not survive, puppies more than 5 days late could require emergency care (induced labor or c-section)

A dog will deliver puppies within a one week widow either before the 63rd day of pregnancy or after the 63rd day of pregnancy.

Is your dog pregnant? If so good luck

Gestation period for a female dog varies between 58 to 66 days. Average is 62-63 days but it may vary in individual cases. But you have to be sure about pregnancy part of it as your pet may have pyometra (it mimicks signs of pregnancy-u may see pus as uterine discharge-get its cytology done) or false pregnancy.
To diagnose pregnancy--
#a vets advice is the best
#an x ray will reveal at around 45th day (by this time bones develop)
#an ultra sound may help as early as 18 days
#a vaginal swab cytology will give u a good notion (this is simple-take a sterile cotton swab..take vaginal discharge over it and give it to a near by lab for testing--just follow aseptic measures)
#u can also make out from the behaviour changes.. belly...mammary glands..female dog becomes a little restless..wants attention and isolation at the same time..will look for a corner...try to dig pot holes..body temperature drops to around 100 degrees just 24 hrs before whelping...time lapse between 1st and 2nd pup may be upto 36 hrs..assistance may be required to take out pups manually or help your pet morally..if things are not working well please seek a vets advice and attention.

If you can't remember the mating date..try and recollect the heat period...and expect 2 months from then to be the eventual day
