Hello all. I'm from the state of New York and I'll be visiting Canada next month.
Is there anything I need to know about Canada?
Will I be in climate shock when I cross the border? Can I rent a skidoo in Canada?

This isn't the Arctic. There are cities, highways, traffic lights and everything else that you have, EXCEPT for the filth and the crime. Expect sarcasm if you say anything stupid here, Canadians are polite enough, but they do not suffer fools lightly.

First of all, I speak for every Canuck that answers this question knows any sterotype 'bout Canada is an insult eh? Nonetheless it's also the right of every human being to be helpfull in every way possible. The weather is much cooler durring the fall season.
However this doesn't mean to bundle up with a huge parka and yes people can rent a skidoo if you are traveling farther north in Canada. Wear a sweater and jeans, you should be fine. Don't forget to leave the sterotyping at the border.

Don't cross at Lacolle it was a nightmare when I did.
Climate shock, only if you don't realize the temperature is in Celsius. 55 degrees F is about 12 C.
Yes you can rent skidoos, but you'll have to go pretty far north to rent one next month. January's good for that; try western Ontario.

October will be too early for skidooing unless you head quite far north. The vast majority of Canadian cities are in the south of the country and will not have snow until November at the very earliest. It won't be much colder than the northern US at this time.

If you go to a skidoo resort i think you can get lesson and a temporary license to drive one.
If you visit from new york... I believe that the tempature is only maybe 5... max 10 degrees lower.
Bring your passeport to cross the border... It's always safer and quicker.
Canadians are really friendly... if you are too of course!
It's a big country with a lot of great places to visit... if you want... surf the web....

Have fun.. it's an amazing country... I recommend going in Québec... very Europeen... and the oldest cities in north america! They speak french... but you still manage really good with english!

what do you think is up here in Canada , ice and snow all year round? Not, B.C. is the mildest climate , East Canada ..Ontario etc. have the cooler climates. If you would like snow.come in winter..December onward. and yes .you can rent skidoo`s ......usually only when snow is on the ground though !!

It's not that much further north than New York State. In fact, if you go to Toronto, it might be a little further south than were you are at right now.
Remember that the highway signs are in km and km/h, not miles. (100 km/h = 60 mph). Don't just go to the cities, enjoy the country side, too.

yes you can rent skidoo's in canada.. but now is not the time..
if your from new york state.. the weather isn't that much different..
it would be like saying the weather in flordia is different from the weather from georgia..
not much of a difference temp wise..
