lust IS normal, but that doesn't mean that it's not bad. it's part of human nature, which is basically what separated us from God in the first place. what i would do when it happened to me (now i'm married so it's not lust anymore... perfectly ok) is i would shift my mind to other things... godly things... kinda like the person who said they have a hymn for it... but it used to hit me most often when i was in bed at night, when my eyes were closed and i was trying to get to sleep. during those times i literally forced my eyes open and focused on a picture on the wall or anything else to get my thought patterns right again. :)

It's human nature to desire something or someone. In the case of lust, love often interjects and makes the desire stronger. Being human is not a sin. Needs of humanity sometimes crosses the borders and creates thoughts due to normal needs and desires. Some have more than others. Try to control them, what else can you do....

Thoughts of lust can be good if those thoughts are of a respectful calibur. People are sexual beings. Celibrate that. We don't have to have twenty partners in a lifetime to be happy; especially with so many STDs around. (A few wives would be nice, but I digress.)

If you still can't deal with it, just try this,,, say "Yes, I'm lusting. Thank you God for these thoughts."

I try to keep my mind open to what I feel and try to undertsand why I feel them. I can't help if I feel lust, because I just feel it. Do not be ashamed of what you may think about, just be aware and be prepared to deal with it. No one says you have to act on your thoughts. But in terms of distractions... hard work, mental excercises (problem solving, puzzles, confronting conflict), reading and discovering new things.. these all seem to help.

You should let go of the idea that lust is a completley bad thought. It's bad if you're raping people and thinking obsessively about someone, but every human thinks lustful thoughts, quite often. It's part of our biology and part of your instincts. There is nothing wrong with it.

Please allow me to answer with some gentle mocking...

What do you do to keep yourself from breathing?
What do you do to keep from drinking, and from eating?

Dear M.C., your lustful thoughts are part of what it is to be human. If you eat too much you become fat. If you indulge in satisfying your lusts too much you will also suffer. The solution is to find the right degree of moderation, but to consider feeling lust no more wrong than feeling hunger.

Oh, and please be sure to practice safe sex! Avoid diseases, and avoid unwanted pregnancy. (And pick sex partners who respect you for all you are, and not just as a sex object.)

Why is a lust a bad thought? Having lustful thoughts is totally normal and part of healthy sexuality. There is nothing wrong with it.

Lust is not bad. Just like a knife, it depends on how you would use it. Just ignore the binge when you feel it, unless you're married. Do some productive activities instead, eg. gardening, baking, :P

I personally try and look at most things as if, if God were looking through my eyes would he be upset with me. He also knows what is in our heart. It is not easy and we all stumble, but just do not CAUSE yourself to stumble. We will all fall short of Gods grace, but it is how we handle it that makes us Christians. It says in the Bible not to purposely continue to sin knowing that you will just ask for forgiveness later. I hope I was of some help.

Lust is not a bad thought - it's a human emotion which is perfectly natural. Don't lose sleep over this one
