It's different because people's parents actually taught them to believe in Jesus, and then when some "supernatural" event occurs, some "startling" coincidence, or some "magical" healing, they make this huge leap of faith that it was caused by the very same god they've always heard about, and therefore they "have faith."
The problem is that a religious upbringing sets people up for just such irrational conclusions, teaching them that the supernatural is real, that prayers can be answered, that god talks to you personally, &c.
When the facts are that every one of those unusual things are common experiences of every person on earth, yet not every person jumps to the same conclusions. Some people have critical minds, are skeptical, and do a little research, learn a little psychology, and have a little multi-cultural and historical awareness to see that you cannot legitimately, sanely, base your decisions on a mystery. You have to go by the facts in evidence.

What you read in these answers are not proof. They are just opinions. The Bible is not a book of opinions, but a communication to man. If you discard the Bible, there are still "proof" that God exists. It all amounts to you accepting proof or rejecting it. No matter how many people thought or think the earth is flat, does not change the fact that it is not. God is much different than the mythological gods. He not only existed before we did, He continues to live & act in our lives today & has promises for us after Christ returns. The God you know a little about does not compare to the gods man made up & continue to make up today.

I had a lot of quesitons before too, but then I decided to read the Bible from front to end, different from Mythology, the Bible had reference to actual times and dates, people and places which were verified, predictions made by God in regards to future events, which later became true. (Even hundreds of years later)
Then I challanged God's one day, because some Christian brothers told me that they had a messege from God for me, this made me angry, i was tired of people saying that they had a messege from God for me, so I asked God to speak to me and wanted to know what was so different about me that he could only speak to those other guys, well i waited up all night, but I did nothear any voice, but when I opened the Bible, every word on the page was directed to me and was speaking only to me. It was spooky.
Lastly, I had a Fuid on my knee(for 4 months) which required Surgery (Saw two doctors in regards to this) I didn't believe in faith healing, but i was desperate, so I prayed and asked God to heal my knee and he did the very same day, The fluid was gone and the doctors amazed. So iknow God is real to me. I cannot see a mythological being healing me. hahahaha.
Take care

actually the bible is very true. if you look at the secular history of the people of the bible, you will find (in most cases) that they existed.
from Jesus, to king david, to king saul, to king solomon, to john the baptist, to joseph, to mary, to paul, peter, john, etc. there is enough secular history to prove that they existed.
as for the countries, civilizations, cities, deserts, rivers, etc, they can also be found in secular history, in archeological history, and even still be standing today.
although the odyssey and the illiad were written about specific heroes and "gods", there is not any secular proof of their providing any aid and assistance or curse to the actual people in history.
as for the necronomicon, this is a fabled book that was mentioned in the h.p. lovecraft books. it did not exist.
now, what were you saying about "proof" of the bible?

Exactly. A lot of the things in the Bible like the story about how God created a rainbow to remind us that he won't flood the earth anymore and even the whole Adam and Eve story are just Christian versions of mythology. I'm a true believing Christian and I still believe that. It's all just people trying to explain where we came from and why things work the way they do. I bet nobody's completley right and you'll never really know til you see the afterlife for yourself.

If it was made up, and untrue it would have died out years ago!
Just like the gods of Egypt, druids, the Roman, and Norse gods.
But it has not and it is growing! why?
The truth dose not die!

Precisely. Pick your favorite -- Bible, Qur'an, Book of Mormon -- all fiction. Each has errors.
Postscript: for the thumbs-downers, I will on request (via avatar) describe specifically the errors that exist.
