Can you please tell me what is your preference, if you have a favorite artist, and if the artwork at your home reflects this preference?
Thanks,

Avll, you are always doing surveys! I like good art and I agree with Georgia O'Keeffe who said ,"It is surprising to me to see how many people separate the objective from the abstract. Objective painting is not good painting unless it is good in the abstract sense. A hill or a tree cannot make a good painting just because it is a hill or a tree. It is lines and colors put together so that they say something. For me that is the very basis of painting." Brilliant woman!

First all art is abstract because it is not real therefore it is an abstraction of reality. What you wanted to ask is whether a person likes art that is representational or non-representational. In other words realistic = you recognize everything you see often with great detail. On the other hand abstract art leaves more to the imagination. Works vary from the discernible to the completely non-representation or even color-field where the subject is color not a specific object. I like something in between what we call abstract expressionist like willem de Kooning for instance.

In my home is have a collection of art that includes figurative, realistic and abstract. I have these because the individual work appeals to me in some way. If a painting touches me then it doesn't make any difference to me what style it is in.

As to my own art, like most artists I started out doing realistic paintings, landscapes, portrait, etc. I stopped doing these years ago because I believe my more modern styles give me much more artistic freedom.

realistic is my favorite, and favorite to make. but many abstracts catch my attention when i'm looking at a lot of art together. it also has to do with who the artist is...when comparing some, i prefer realistic over abstract, but some the opposite. it depends how it was made/looks

I prefer realistic basically. I have some Salvador Dali and Heronymus Bosch prints. They are weird but not abstract or non-objective. I see no point in just splatters of color. There is no way to judge such stuff objectively.

Abstract, and well im not too good with realistic stuff. Yeah, but im an excellent artist when it comes to abstract. You have more choices and you can do just about anything.

realistic. I have to many favorites to go through. Most of my husbands art is non-objective so I guess you could add that in.
Also, check out my friend Katie

And yes- the art in our home reflects this. Pretty much everything we have was done by friends.

I like Michaelangelo Buoronatti, Eugene Delcroix and Auguste Rodin's works.
