Here in Canada I like to listen to a San Francisco Radio Station. Most of the time the reception is very poor or the signal fades away.

If you are listening to what I presume is an AM broadcast, there are a number of things you can do to improve reception. The easiest thing to do is improve your antenna. Generally, longwires suspended in trees (horizontal) can do amazing things. You can also hang a wire from a tree (vertical). You can also improve your reciever to add filters and fine tuning capabilities. However, this can prove to be more expensive. Also, if the signal is propogating off of the atmosphere, that reception can change with the weather both here on earth and on the sun, and can change over time (11 year cycle).
