The answer is no.
When you were outprocessing, you should have filed for disability then; that would have required a submission of your medical records for review (the Army sends them to Fort Sam Houston, don't know about other service branches) and the disability would have been confirmed there and then. For leg problems enabling partial mobrility, you'd have been looking at 10% - if they were legitimate.
You cannot go back now and say "whups, I have Gulf War Syndrome, can I get my 100% at E-9 pay?" just because you didn't want to call it in. And to be blunt, you categorized your injury as a sprain. No matter how aggravated, it's a simple sprain, not a ligament tear, not anything else.
Trying to apply for disability for an injury that inconsequential is defrauding then government and the taxpayer. Besides, there is likely no paperwork in your possession to prove that the injury you claim was done in the line of duty.
It's no surprise the other vets who have responded feel that you are malingering and a disgrace. I personally don't care either way because you're out of uniform; it's the ones still in service that bother me.
I do not encourage you to try VA or any other route to claim disability. Try to earn an honest living and be grateful that active duty service didn't leave you with a real, bona fide permanent disability.

I work at a VA Hospital and know alot about the Ratings system. If your ankle starts to hurt you again and you have medical records to back up your injury from being in the military. You have a chance at getting some sort of disability compensation. There is lots of paperwork involved and it takes a while just to get a ratings exam.
There are a couple of types of compensation.
* You can get rated at a certain percentage like 10% you would get about $110 a month. (More if you have kids and spouse)
* You can get rated at 50% or more and get all your medical covered for the rest of your life at a VA facility.
* You could get rated at 0%, but you can get supplies and medications that have to do with your injury.
* Or you can not get rated at all and get nothing.
Go to your local regional office. They can explain everything to you. Good Luck!

You sprained your ankle and now you want to get disablility? What are you in the air force or better yet the air national guard, suck it the hell up there are real soldiers out there that get injured a lot worse that dont even think about applying for disability much less get it. You are part of that 10% that makes the rest of us look bad to these civilians. Now get the sand out of your who who and change your socks, drink water and take your motrin and you'll do fine. And honestly if you ask anyother miltary guy in person, he will laugh at you and tell you the same thing.

It sounds, by your question, that you are no longer in the service, and that you sprained your ankle while you were no longer in government service. If that's the case, then you will not get any compensation. If, however, you did the damage while on active duty, then it would have to be in your military medical records. You would then have to contact VA.

If you sprained your ankle but now you are okay now, why would you want to claim disability.? Disability Compensation is tax payer money given by a compassionate government administrator to people who are truly unable to provide for them self. Why would you consider stealing from the pool of money that is set aside for the truly needy. I know you mother must be so proud of you.

Your all sharks. If you have documented medical chart notes of the ankle injury while on active duty And you continue to have ankle problems
You should file for service connected disability.
