That's rather funny...
You kinda go on an Islam rant and in the end ask, "What's is Islam by the way?"
But anyway, the thing is all the extremist would rather kill and die for their cause than to live in a world with all the "infidels." And they believe that they will be rewarded for that in the next life. What was it I heard the other day? Something about the leader of Iran saying everyone needs to convert to Islam or suffer more attacks. So you can see they mean business.
It's not their religion per sey, but people can take anything to an extreme fanatic level. There are terrorist groups in all religions, but it's funny how you never really hear too much about them. That's American journalism for ya. We're made out to be the heroes while everyone else in the world are evil doers.

you have a long story and you need a short answer. number one, please do not generalize --not all Muslims like suicide bombing, that is for sure. true also we need the silent majority to speak up --whenever they can. and they should.true also the situation in Iran and Iraq is complex and difficult to comprehend specially if you are not living in those lands. the question of Muslims in u.k. is completely another ball game --living as an immigrant and not integrating into the social environment is one factor and there are thousand of other factors each with its own weight and importance. books can be written on the subject. this subject --Muslim, suicide, religion and a million other words -- is a new phenomenon -- given the number of Muslims in the world and specially in the new world (north america) and Europe --and confronting the west head-on with their values vs. the western values. Enough said. do not generalize and try to be tolerant for the times being -- hopefully things will calm down...the sooner the better. hope it helps in your quest. and pray your way.

It's all the media. When your country is being invaded by tanks and being bombed by airstrikes, and you have no army to defend yourself. You have no tanks, surface to air missiles. You have to resort to something else. The japanese did it also. They were the pioneers of the suicide missions. Everything from kamikazi pilots to kamikaze soldiers (suicide bombers). I guess most Americans dont understand the fact that people that dont have the means to defend themselves have to resort to other means to fight back. We invaded Iraq because they had "Weapons of Mass Destruction". Which they didnt. We dont go after North Korea and they have nukes. Iran doesnt even have nukes. They have never invaded a country before and they never nuked anyone. We were the first to nuke in the history of mankind. We also invaded Iraq and Vietnam. Getting our *** kicked in both. I got two friends out there who are fighting a war that even they dont understand. The US Army has killed more civilians and children than any suicide bomber has. All the innocent lives in Hiroshima and Iraq. Sometimes I wonder who the real terrorists are....

Not all Muslims are evil and unstable...Osama and Fiends and supporters most definitely but Islam as a whole...not likely.
Sadly it's the filth of Osama and Fiends that you will always see and hear about, because the others are too silent and afraid to even help us stop 'em....

More Tamil Tigers have been suicide bombers than Muslims. Suicide bombing is really a Hindu thing.
Such a dumb generalisation.

WHO ARE THE REAL TERRORISTS?
Muslims claim that their faith promotes justice, peace, and freedom. Critics of the faith (and some Muslims themselves) cite verses from the Qur'an that seem to promote violent, armed warfare. How can these different images be reconciled?
The entire Qur'an, taken as a complete text, gives a message of hope, faith, and peace to a faith community of one billion people. The overwhelming message is that peace is to be found through faith in God, and justice among fellow human beings.
At the time the Qur'an was revealed (7th century A.D.), there was no United Nations or Amnesty International to keep the peace or expose injustice. Inter-tribal violence and vengeance was commonplace. As a matter of survival, one must have been willing to defend against aggression from all sides. Nevertheless, the Qur'an repeatedly urges forgiveness and restraint, and warns believers not to "transgress" or become "oppressors." Some examples:
If anyone slays a person
- unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land -
it would be as if he slew all people.
And if anyone saves a life,
it would be as if he saved the life of all people.
Qur'an 5:32
Invite all to the way of your Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching.
And argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious . . .
And if you punish,
let your punishment be proportional to the wrong that has been done to you.
But if you show patience, that is indeed the best course.
Be patient, for your patience is from God.
And do not grieve over them, or distress yourself because of their plots.
For God is with those who restrain themselves, and those who do good.
Qur'an 16:125-128
Oh you who believe!
Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to God,
even against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin,
and whether it be against rich or poor,
for God can best protect both.
Follow not the cravings of your hearts, lest you swerve,
and if you distort justice or decline to do justice,
verily God is well acquainted with all that you do.
Qur'an 4:135
The recompense for an injury is an injury equal thereto (in degree),
but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from God,
for God loves not those who do wrong.
But indeed, if any do help and defend themselves after a wrong done to them,
against such there is no cause of blame.
The blame is only against those who oppress men with wrongdoing
and insolently transgress beyond bounds through the land,
defying right and justice,
for such there will be a penalty grievous (in the Hereafter).
But indeed, if any show patience and forgive,
that would truly be an affair of great resolution.
Qur'an 42:40-43
Goodness and evil are not equal.
Repel evil with what is better.
Then that person with whom there was hatred,
may become your intimate friend!
And no one will be granted such goodness
except those who exercise patience and self-restraint,
none but people of the greatest good fortune.
Qur'an 41:34-35
But what about those passages of the Qur'an that seem to promote wanton violence? One of the verses most often quoted (2:191) seems to command Muslims to "slay them wherever you find them." But who are "they?" Is it any non-Muslim or "infidel?" One merely needs to read the preceding verse to find the answer: "Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for Allah loves not the transgressors" (2:190). In subsequent verses, Muslims are called upon to stop fighting when the opposing party ceases its aggression.
There are other, similar, verses calling on Muslims to defend themselves. However, each one is likewise qualified and limited in scope -- they cannot be interpreted as giving a Muslim free license to kill anyone, anywhere, for whatever reason. Muslim scholars have analyzed these verses again and again, taking into account the scriptural and historical context of the revelation. These and other verses are discussed in the following online articles:

Why do you define the terrorists as muslims and generalize the terrorist doings to the whole religion?
You're not sensible about your words.
