I do not believe that Mormons are Christians, no. They use the same words, but they have different meanings. Mormonism holds the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith as an additional book of God's word, and a prophet of God....which mainstream Christianity completely rejects.

Mormons, in my personal opinion, are among the nicest people I've ever met, sadly misled by a false gospel and a false prophet.

I have read some good answers to your question. Let me add some insight as well. Responses have been answered in 3 areas thus far, jokingly, with insist about cult Mormonism, & about a contrast between the two. Are the 2 religions the same? No! There are some strong differences, yet have some seeminly similar approaches. Studying the truth about Mormons, though they have some good teachings, their end result is different. Christianity would say that mormons are trying to work their way to a heaven, rather than a free gift of grace through Jesus...Mormons would say they have a latter revelation(s) which is not even needed in Christianity. I wonder from your brief question if you are asking if a Mormon can be a Christian &/or if a Christian can be a Mormon. The Christian Bible teaches us that we will have to chose, one or the other. God will not share or be shared with another god. The Mormon will try to lessen the importance of the Bible & want you to advance in their cult. Can someone grow up as a Mormon, but trust Jesus as a their Savior? I think God knows which they choose & accept them. Hope this has been helpful & pray that you so some research on your own as well as read the answers from the Internet here.

It's a matter of opinion isn't it? Depends on your definition of a Christian.

Simple answer, they are followers of Christ and believe he is God. That's probably good enough as far as the dictionary is concerned. But most other Christians think the Mormons are not "true" Christians.

Go to this talk...

http://library.lds.org/nxt/gateway.dll/Magazines/NewEra/1998.htm/new%20era%20may%201998.htm/are%20mormons%20christians.htm

It is even titled the same as your question.

Exerts:

"There are a number of arguments used supposedly to “prove” that we are not Christian. It is important to recognize that none of them have anything to do with whether or not Latter-day Saints believe in Jesus Christ. Rather, what they basically boil down to is this: Latter-day Saints are different from the other Christian churches."

"If the term Christian is used, as it is in standard English, to mean someone who accepts Jesus Christ as the divine Son of God and the Savior of the world, then the charge that we aren’t Christians is false. However, if the word Christian is given an overly narrow definition, then it is merely a way of saying LDS Christians differ in some degree from other Christians. No one “owns” the term Christian or has the right to deny it to others who worship Jesus as the divine Son of God."

Yes, just because they believe the Trinity theory, and they believe Christ God and the Holy Ghost are separate people, doesn't mean they aren't Christian. They (I'm generalizing here) work harder than most to try and be good people... Plus they pray, read their scriptures (The Bible as well as their books- which are called "other testaments of Christ"), pay tithing, even have their church named after Christ. What more can you expect a Christian to do before being considered a "Christian".

Yes and for everyone's knowledge mormons use the same bible that every other christian does they only have an additional scripture that is another testament of Jesus Christ, the son of god.

If they believe in Jesus as are savor and they do. what is a Christian to you?Mine is beliveing in Jesus as the way to heaven and truly ask for your sins to be forgiven and forgive others and most Mormons do that. Its not the name of church it is you and god.

No they are not Christians.. They would have you believe they are and even mislead intentionally to that end. In truth they deny the Bible and use extrabiblical writings that contradict the Bible for their beliefs. In short the jesus they have created is nothing but a man that became a god as they believe they will one day become. The true biblical Jesus has always been God even when He walked this earth as a man He was fully God and fully man. Mormons believe Jesus was created and not the creator of heaven and earth. They have many false doctrines that are taken from the writings of Joseph Smith, tjheir founder, that are in conflict with the true word of God.. Hope I havew helped.

Anyone who folows a Christ like character can be called a Christian. However, if you go strictly by what the Bible says, which is the only way to go: Mormons are not Christians. They are a cult. Read 2 corinthians 11 and think about how ceratin passages refer to cults like Mormonism. Get back to me and let me know what you come up with.
