Doctrine and Covenants section 101 used to have a verse that said that marriage was for only one man to one woman. That was deleted when Joseph Smith wrote D&C section 132, the infamous 'poligamy revelation'. If the LDS church is serious about not practicing poligamy, why doesn't it delete section 132, as it did to the part of section 101 that mandated monogamy???

Mormon WEb Site Says this:

"We are faced these days with many newspaper articles on this subject. This has arisen out of a case of alleged child abuse on the part of some of those practicing plural marriage.

I wish to state categorically that this Church has nothing whatever to do with those practicing polygamy. They are not members of this Church. Most of them have never been members. They are in violation of the civil law. They know they are in violation of the law. They are subject to its penalties. The Church, of course, has no jurisdiction whatever in this matter.

If any of our members are found to be practicing plural marriage, they are excommunicated, the most serious penalty the Church can impose. Not only are those so involved in direct violation of the civil law, they are in violation of the law of this Church. An article of our faith is binding upon us. It states, “We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law” (A of F 1:12). One cannot obey the law and disobey the law at the same time.

There is no such thing as a “Mormon Fundamentalist.” It is a contradiction to use the two words together.

More than a century ago God clearly revealed unto His prophet Wilford Woodruff that the practice of plural marriage should be discontinued, which means that it is now against the law of God. Even in countries where civil or religious law allows polygamy, the Church teaches that marriage must be monogamous and does not accept into its membership those practicing plural marriage."

"We warn you against the so-called polygamy cults which would lead you astray. Remember the Lord brought an end to this program many decades ago through a prophet who proclaimed the revelation to the world. People are abroad who will deceive you and bring you much sorrow and remorse. Have nothing to do with those who would lead you astray. It is wrong and sinful to ignore the Lord when he speaks. He has spoken—strongly and conclusively."

I think your source on the Doc and Cov 101 changing is wrong...

I usually don't leave such a long response but...

Can God not change His commandments when/if He wants to? Polygamy then had a specific purpose, what was it? Who knows but the Lord...He is the one who gave the command.
We believe in constant revelation from God, it's going on right now.
If our prophet said tomorrow that God wanted us to quit mowing our lawn, I would not question why, I would do it, that is called FAITH. I have faith that the Lord leads the prophet of our church.
There was also a manifesto written by the prophet at the time polygamy was no longer practiced. Why is this still such a big deal to people? So what if polygamy was practiced? Didn't the prophets of old have multiple wives? I just don't get why people cannot get over it. God has a purpose for everything.

LDS believe that someday they will be allowed to practice polygamy again. They feel that God hasn't changed His mind on polygamy, just gave them a pass due to persecution from the US Government and He didn't want His 'flock' to all be murdered by the government.

Polygamy in the main LDS church will return, I have no doubt. All it is going to take is ONE person willing to take it to the Supreme Court as religious freedom.

The mormons have a living Prophet. The current prophet can supercede anything written by prior prophets. Their "Word of Wisdom" was originally given as a suggestion but later changed to commandment. Basically they just follow the teachings as they are given by the Prophet. Its a living church.

First, Smith was a serious crackhead. Second, he was brilliant at tricking people into giving him money. Third, the mormons I know (and I know quite a few) are very decent people...but I think they are too stressed out, because their religion is very demanding of them...especially the tithing part.

I'm not answering your question, but I just love to sit in on the mormon questions. I really think Smith was a great racketeer. He scammed money from people, he got young girls to marry old dudes. It's just amazing what people will do in the name of religion.

MMmmmya. The word Mormon is awfully close in spelling to the word moron. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Now I know a few mormons. They are good people. Their religion just is the biggest load of BS I have ever read...save maybe scientology. Thats a toss up between those 2.
