I understand maybe when a kid is a toddler, but why do teenagers who drive, who are really independent who have moms who stay home? My little sister's friend's mom does it, and it is kind of weird. She is 16, and her sis is 18 and going to college and the mom still stays at home like they are 5 and 6 years old. Just wondering why this is?

It depends on the maturity level of the teenagers. It may be so long since the mom has worked that she gets nervous when she thinks about an interview. It is an honour to be a stay at home mom and the 16y.o. and 18y.o still need guidance. Look at the kids that are this age that get into trouble and there is no parents available. These girls are lucky to have a mom that is involved in there lives. She will be without them for the rest of her life when they move out ...unless they move back in one day.
Most little girls don't grow up saying I want to be a stay at home homemaker...it is a sacrifice. Most women would rather be a career executive with a 6 digit salary and power! Stay at home moms are hero's that are definitely undervalued by society.

If any of you really took care of your kids then you would understand that age means nothing and your children are truly never grown. Our kids will always be our kids.
As a stay at home mom myself as well as a mom who has worked outside the home, I understand the importance of giving your kids space, as well as being there in case they need you.
Just because they can drive a car doesnt mean they are ready to live on their own, be at home by theirself all the time, or anything else on their own all the time.
By having a parent who is home all the time, it gives your kids something to fall back on as they may not make the best choices when they are alone.
As a teenager who drives and is really independant, let me ask you this.. Do you pay the bills, are you repsonsible enough to make sure that all that goes into keeping house done each and everyday?
Or would you have wild parties where anything goes?

I doubt if the moms thinks that her kids arent growing up and I dont think she stays cause she has convinced herself that they are still 5 and 6 years old.
My guess is that since you arent a parent yourself, then you couldnt and probably will never understand why us mother do what we do.

If that's an option for her why shouldn't she stay home and take care of her kids. Being a stay at home mother is great. It enables you to give your children more and 16 year olds still really need their mother(not that they realize they need their mother). I'm a stay at home mom I plan on going back to work when my kids start school but Its every moms choice. If you do it right being a stay at home mom is equivalent to like three full time jobs no matter how old your kids are.

well it is not strange to those of us who were stay at home mothers and the reason most of us don't go get jobs is because we are now retired from our jobs. Allot of times mothers don't go to work because they have spent their whole lives doing for their families and then they feel it is their turn to get aliitle enjoyment out of life after having given most of their lives to their children. I think it is wonderful that this mother can afford to stay home and raise her children what does age have to do with it any ways I know allot of teenagers and trust me some of them will always need an adult around to keep them from doing things that will harm them or endanger their lives 16 is the perfect age to go out and get into all kinds of trouble. This mother knows her children better then you I I could or would ever. If you are really a friend may I suggest you not cut down the parenting of others because frankly you really can't know all there is to know about other folks. There are certainly good reasons this mother stays at home too be sure if not then trust me she would probably be the first one out that door. lol good luck worry about your self and not your friends mother so much. Also in closing it was once put to me that somebody has got to work and somebody has got to stay home and raise the kids and who do you think makes more money!!!

Ask your friend this- does she miss mom when she comes home from school and she isn't home. Her first answer maybe no but if she thinks about and is honest she'll admit she does.

Having a parent home when you are can be a comfort as well as a pain since you can't very well get away with as much if they are home.

Women choose to work and women choose to stay home, now more Dads are opting to be the 'stay at home'. Mostly it is about choice and if a family can afford to have one income. Your friend's are truly lucky thier mom can stay home.

It would be kind of hard to get back into the job market after being out of work for so long. I plan on looking for a job when my youngest (we are trying again in 6 months) starts 1st grade. Some moms just like to spend time with their kids before they head off to college and start their own lives.

Beleive it or not teenagers will/would get into more trouble when there is no parent around. My mom worked p/t but was home about an hour or so after I walked in the door when I was in HS. I really am glad she was though, it showed me that she did care about me honestly. Just my honest opinion.

It's so out of the norm now it's very hard to explain. Teenagers really do need protection as much as small children. Plus a Mom at home usually does allot of extras for her family.

Offspring need their mother at any age...trust me on this. My daughter is 30 and she still runs to me for someone to argue with. Personally, I wish my own mother would have given a damn...at all. I've lived my whole 50 years without the benefit of a mother who wanted to be part of my life.

Plus, teenagers aren't known for their integrity. A caring mom knows not to leave the door open for their teen to figure out life on their own yet.

it is a proven fact that children who are left alone for even 2 hours a day are 60% more likely to do drugs or drink alcohol

They have a mom who is there until they are out of her home and on there own
