Lately, I have noticed that I keep smelling this strange scent, which at first seemed to be coming from my hands, but then I realized that I smelled it on other things too, not on my body. It is a pretty indescribable smell, but it basically smells dirty or grimy. The only other symptoms I have had with this are a strange pulsating sensation in my left ear and some pain behind my left eye/nose. What could this be a sign of?

You may have a sinus/ear infection. It could also be a medication side effect. Either way, a quick trip to the doctor if it continues is not a bad idea, just so they can get a look at both and make sure you dont need some antibiotics for infection. Hope it goes away soon for you.

I too had that maddening elusive smell. I went too an ear nose throat doctor who told me I had a whopping big sinus infection in the maxillary sinus and the infection was causing the strange smell. You probably have an ear infection also

You more than likely have a sinus infection. Yuo don't have to experience the common symptoms(runny/stuffy nose, sore throat,etc.). What you are describing sounds like a sinus infection but get a perscription cause over the counter will prob. not work at this point of the infection.

Are you an epileptic? Epilepsy?
Sometimes people have what is called an "aura" before they have a seizure.
It is different for everyone, and I have been told by some patients that they smell something, usually the same smell every time as their aura before they have a seizure.
Not all seizures are jerking body movements.
I would talk to your doctor or a neurologist and see what they say.

You probably should mention this to your doctor. Not to be alarming, but some mental illnesses are accompanied by strange smells.
