I don't but please don't give my question a thumbs down, LOL.

I really don't care so much if someone gives me thumbs down. Hey, I did my best, if that's not good enough, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

On the other hand, I miss getting the bonus point for a thumbs up on a best answer. It was nice to get points still coming in from questions I answered long ago. It gave you a good feeling and let you know that people were still reading what you might have said months back. Also, since you got a point, you also knew you had a thumbs up on a particular answer. People often make comments when they give a thumbs-up on a best answer, and if you have several hundred best answers out there, I don't think you have the time to check for comments. With the thumbs-up, you knew it, and could look and see if they left a comment or not.

Yahoo sort of killed that when they added the thumbs up/thumbs down feature to everything and took away the points. No it they have really no meaning at all.

Good question. I am honestly saying that I care. I would love to see all thumbs up but prefer honest feedback to ego stroking.

It is also not bad to get a lot of thumbs down if you know your answer won't be popular but you are standing up for what you believe is right.

I don't think Yahoo has been clear enough about what the "thumbs" mean though. Does it mean you agree with the post or might not agree but respect a well thought out answer? I tend to give thumbs ups for both reasons.

I might care on certain questions if I ever found out about the thumbs up or down. I rarely go back and look at the answers unless it was a really intriguing question or I get a best answer and don't remember what I said.

It's interesting to see how different answers rate amongst various groups, even if mine are higher or lower than average.

In some cases, having 5 or more thumbs down means I am on the right track.

Only once. I mentioned getting a scholarship and I got 2 thumbs down and thought "that's messed up!" but maybe they're just jealous. :)

Helps me to gauge the mindset of those browsing and making their own answers. Also gives me an estimate of whether or not I'll get Best Answer - which is a bit lousy right now (under 10%).

I'm not sure how many people really care either. I think it's just something to do.... and I think we all do things that get us "points" or make us feel like we have some control over something.

I actually liked your question!

I do. It kinda breaks my heart when I see a thumbs-down for my answer. NOT!
