You will end up in a different state. That is the way of the military.
If this person means so much to you, then stay with them. The distance can be tough, but it is survivable.

The only way I can possibly see this happening is if you join the Florida Air National Guard. It sounds like you want this as a full time job which means you have to get a Florida duty station in your contract if you go regular Air Force. I don't know if the AF does this (I was Army) but the Army does. Last option is to try and get an active duty national guard slot (very hard to do). A bit of advice: figure out if you want the girl or a career. The military does not serve you, you serve it.

It's hard to say, all depends on what you can get in your contract. Most military contracts say "needs of the service" when you finish school. The only guaranteed way to stay in Florida is if you get it in your contract saying you will be assigned in Florida, and don't take the recruiters word for it.

You also need to think about what will happen after 2-3 years when its time for you to get orders and go to a new duty station. But by that point you should know if you like the Air Force and want to stay in and could be married/engaged and wouldn't mind moving out of Florida.

Just remember if you do decide to join, that you will be assigned to Florida is in your contract, if not than you will go wherever the Air Force needs you. If you try saying the recruiter said you would be in Florida they'll show you the contract and say that's not what you signed. If it's in your contract and they don't give it to you than you have a basis for an administrative separation and get out because the AF didn't honor the contract.

It's nearly a certainty that you won't be stationed in FL. Although there are AF installations in FL, the total number of billets in that state compared to the entire AF is very small.

You stand a 50-50 chance of an overseas posting coming out of Tech School. Those are 1, 2, or 3 years long, depending upon the location and your dependancy status. If you're single, it would be 1 year at a short-tour remote location such as Korea or 2 at a long-tour location like the UK or Germany.

If you pulled a CONUS (stateside) assignment out of Tech School you would probably spend your entire first term at that location unless you volunteered for an overseas tour. The statistical chances of that assignment being in FL would be around 5% at best and would depend upon your AFSC (your job) and the needs of the AF.

You could bring your new squeeze along on a CONUS assignment but not on an overseas assignment. There's a strong probability that you'd be required to live in the dorms on-base so you'd need to consider the added cost of rent and utilities completely out-of-pocket since you would not collect any housing allowances as a single Airman.

I am guessing that you are between 17 and 20, right?
Honey, join the AF, travel see the world. Have some fun, get an education, then worry about the relationship!
Take the advise of someone who gave up on the AF, because I thought that I could not live without the person I was with at the time!
Yeah, the relationship lasted 8 months, and I gave up my dreams.
Unless you have been with his person for atleast a year, you need to worry about your future first!!!

HAHA... You might want to look into Reserve or guard. I to am originally from FL. I joined the AF back in 01 thinking they would send me back to FL. Well I listed all FL bases on my dream sheet and they sent me to Minot, North Dakota. After that I tried again by volunteering to go to Korea cause you get to pick your follow-on and they sent my to Maxwell AFB, AL...

FL is the hardest state to get to and usually when people get it they make a career out of staying there. Good luck on trying but the chances are slim.

If you don't enlist in the air force, then there's a pretty good chance you can stay in Florida. Maybe you both could join the air force and still be together.

Once you take your oath of service, you are assigned based on the needs of the service and not necessarily what you want.

My own experience -- Once I took my oath -- I NEVER returned to my home ever again!
