Why do people think that the bible is divinely inspired but that the qur'an, the vedas, etc. is not?

And consequently, why do you use the bible as a source?

(The bible is not perfect, see http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/contra/by_name.html )

I have read much of the bible, that is how I came to this conclusion, and believe me: It hasn't had an answer to any questions (outside of say, what's in the bible) of mine ever.

Well, duh, the bible is true because it says so in the bible!

Although, it follows therefore that the Quran is true, because it says so in the Quran; and the Bhagavad Gita is true, because it says so in the Bhagavad Gita.... can you Christians start to see a problem with this kind of circular logic?

Oh, and NICOLE, I've read the entire bible. Several times. And the Quran (in translation). Thing is, I read other stuff as well, which I suspect you probably don't.

Good question from your point of view and I see some did agree with you. I also see other opinions and even one who resorted to name calling.

I will first say you are right to have your own opinion. now here is mine in my view for it is the way I do see things.

Humankind can learn for anything and everything. I read the bible a lot. I also use a dictionary, watch tv, live life, talk to people and in all do try to learn something new all the time. I also spend a lot of time thinking of the new things I learn like answering your question right now. You gave me a new web site and this is the first time I answered your questions.

A lot think the qur" an is divinely inspired thus I conclude the use of the words "divinely inspired" is determined by the user.

I find the bible amazing. In it I see that it is the words that My God wants me to understand. By that I mean really understand. If I see an error that I think is an error or an imperfection that I think is an imprefection I must wonder. Why do I see it as an imperfection? Am I to tell a book what to say or am I to accept it for what it really says? Do I have a right to tell the writer of Harry Potter what to write in the book? [got Harry Potter fom an answer to you].

I choose to seek an answer to my question first within and try to understand why I see what I see. Now if you see that as using the Bible as a reference, then I am guilty. I am also guilty of using a dictionary as a reference and tv, etc.

Do think about it and have a good day. Maybe next time do not put all humankind in one group or say that most when maybe it is only a few that you have been exposed to my friend. I see each unit of humankind as unique in some way. Am I wrong for having that view or for seeing that in your view? I am just curious.

With that do have a good dau and now you know a "NO" does exist. I hpoe that is new for you.

The Bible is perfect. It works like this. God created man and all the mechanism that makes his brain work. Then God gave him the Bible knowing the exact responses that the brain would have, even with free will. God then watched as the Bible was used to start hundreds of years of religious wars, bigotry and racism. He was amused as slavery was both justified and opposed by the same book. God probably laughed through the Dark Ages. Ha, ha, ha, religion made His creation think that the symptoms of diseases were actually the acts of demons. And let's not forget the crusades. Nothing seems to amuse Him more than to watch two masses of His creation clash on a bloodied battlefield in opposition yet perform those acts in His name. After all, He knew exactly how it would happen.

I visited the website you included and do not see any fact in that at all. The Bible does not contradict itself. Truth is, the Bible has been torn apart and accusations have been made for years. The Bible is a HUGE book and from now the the beginning of time when the Bible was written people have tried and tried again to prove it wrong and it has NEVER been done.
The Bible is perfect. It is God's living word.
I hope you find your way in life. You will never be happier till you find God's peace, joy and love.

People that believe in the Holy Bible believe it's God's word thus divinely inspired by God to man. People who believe in the Koran believe it's God's word thus divinely inspired by God to man. People that believe in the Torah believe it's God's word thus divinely inspired by God to man. Are you getting my point? Whatever holy book someone read and believes in believes that it's from God. Most religions believe in the same God, the one Creator. They just break off at a certain point and go their separate ways. Christians believe Jesus was the Son of God, the Messiah. Jews believe that the Messiah hasn't come yet. Muslims believe that Muhammad was the last great prophet and are waiting for judgement day.

I use my Catholic Bible as a source because I tend to believe what God tells me and not man.

Everyone has a foundation for what they believe- whether it be a so called atheist that puts their faith in the writings of fallible men, one that puts their faith soley in what their parents taught them, one that puts their faith in their own limited research and understanding. What makes someone using the Bible as the foundation for their beliefs any different than what anyone else uses and why does it irritate people so much?
I use it as a source because it has been proven and continues to be proven historically accurate, it flows together like no other piece of literature despite the fact that it was written by many men over many many years. Study that keeps scriptures in context of other scriptures, the original language and time and culture will show that the Bible does not contradict itself as many claim. It is my foundation and source because my entire life has been changed by it, I have also been witness to the lives of others who have been drastically changed by the word of God.

The Bible is a book that is both complex and designed to be understood at the same time. Just like any other composition that is "deep", we often need help to understand what is in the Bible. Once we accept that we may not be able to understand it all without help, and ask God to guide us, we can truly understand what is in the bible. Much of it is parables and analogy. But, a lot of it is history and verifiable. Don't listen to what christendom tells you is in the Bible. Search it out for yourself. It is a reliable book that contains much practical advice.

Is there any other books which is better and more perfect than the bible. If not , that's the reason why people use it as a source. People( the christians ) in all parts of the world think bible is the best . Even if they know it is not perfect they don't want to prove it they try to believe it is perfect.

Christians HAVE to overlook the contradictions and falsehoods of the bible. It is the cornerstone of the entire christian faith. If they could even admit a small part of it as being false then the entire thing becomes suspect. After reading and studying the bible is when I truly saw it for what it is and became an atheist.

The Bible is perfect for those that believe as is the Qur'an, the Vedas and all other holy scriptures. Our individual faith in them ensure that they are holy. Who says God, a being no human can ever hope to fully comprehend, can not speak to all people in the ways they will best understand?
