German Shepard's are mellower than mini pinchers. But with both dogs you have to be the boss or there will be trouble. And when you get them together you have to be very careful and strict.

If you get the GS, take it for a long walk around the neighborhood before bringing onto your property. This is so it burns a lot of energy and be more mellow. For a short while keep the 2 dogs apart so that you can judge how they will act together. Make them lay down first and keep them down. Stand between them. You want them to be submissive and calm and recognize you as the boss.

With 2 dogs it is harder to control them both. Always stay calm and act like a leader. Being the boss is 90% of the fun.

The only way to know for sure is for all people and dogs to meet on neutral territory - I would meet outside on a grassy area with one person having one dog on a leash and another person having the other dog on a leash and allow the dogs to say hi to each other slowly at first and see how they react, then I would encourage each person to visit with each dog, then I would ask all the people to sit down on the ground and let the dogs walk around all the people while someone is still holding on to and passing along the leashes - the dogs must be kept on leashes at all times this way in case any aggression does start - anyone can use the leashes to pull the dogs away from each other - I would also recommend that at least one person who is not from the adopting family be present to be in charge of just watching the dogs and making sure that everyone is safe and this person should be a knowledgable dog handler or trainer.

If you have a fenced in area available for this meeting, you can let the leashes go and allow the dogs to roam freely after the initial introduction goes well.

Most dogs at 5 months of age are still pretty much puppies and they should get along if they are welcomed into the home on an equal basis and treated equally. If you favor one dog over the other, jealousy issues can get started.

I am SURE that all will work out.. I wish more people would adopt our wonderful pets.. When you bring the German Shepherd into the house for the first time, the miniature pincher will probably be OK with the Shepard because they are both young.. If not right at first.. they will get along fine in .. or within a week for sure.. I know.

We brought our older shepherd into our home when he was 5 months old. We had 3 cats and an elderly greyhound at the time. Everyone but the female cat got along with him!
I think it would be no problem. At 5 months, GSDs are ALL puppy and still real goofy! Your mini pin will probably 1)bully the pup or 2)play with the pup or 3)have nothing to do with him. As the older dog, the pup will eventually get the idea. Mine did! (he literally mourned the passing of the greyhound!)

If you are going to adopt from a shelter, you should be able to take the family and your pincher there to meet with the new dog to see how everyone gets along. But with both of them still being puppies, there shouldn't be a problem.
