Jews, like Christians and Muslims, have some who are literalists and/or who take very rigid interpretations of text to fit their biases.

You will note this only applies to Conservative Judaism. Reform Jews have long ordained women and gays. (Like the Baptists, there are different local authorities and some may ordain and some may not. The Conservatives have begun to ordain women so this is a logical next step. Even more surprising, a recent news story was about an orthodox woman leading a synagogue, but they stopped short of calling her a rabbi.

Gay rabbits are pretty safe since they aren't Kosher and can just loook all cute and fluffy and not worry about Granny's recipe for jugged hare. As for smiting, all Republicans are advised to seek immediate shelter.

Judaism has 613 commandments, some banning same sex relationships. It is very explicit and the 613 commandments are binding on every Jew.

Judaism have different movements. The Orthodox movement is the strictest. They faithfully follow the traditions. On the flip side, Reform is the least strict. The article you cite, is the middle movement.

No matter what is decided, the 613 commandments are there as they have been for over 3500 years. Unless you are a Jew, just sit on the sidelines and see what results are..
