You may have had an allergic reaction to the bite. When I was subing as a gym teacher once, I got bitten outside by a mosquito. I was very concerned because in the north east we have west nile and EEE infected mosquitos. I went to the school nurse and she said it looked so swollen because I had an allergic reaction to the bite - although I had never experienced that before from a bite.
If you're concerned about being infected, the fact is it symptons, such as fever and flu like symptons, don't appear right away and can take up to 14 days to show. Even if you were bitten by an infected mosquito, my doctor said that many times your body can actually fight it off without it being a problem. In rare instances it can make you real sick. Healthy people have a better chance of just fighting it off. I would take some vitamins to help boost up your immune system. Good luck, I hope you're fine.

Are you absolutely sure it's a mosquito bite? I don't believe that a bite from a mosquito that carries West Nile is any different from one that doesn't. If it's red and rashy in an area around it is it possible you may have brushed up against some poison ivy or something?

i don't think you have West Nile. a large bite isn't a symptom.
when a bug bites you, it is not the poison in the bug that makes the itchy spot...it is the histamines in your body reacting to the bite and any chemicals injected into the skin.
it sounds to me like your body reacted to the bite in a major way. are you sure it was a mosquito? it could have been a spider, as someone else said. did you see what bit you?
try taking some benedryl, or better still, get the topical to put on the bite. some hydrocortizone cream is also very helpful!
hope this helps.

No idea why a mossie bite would look this way, but to stop from being bitten take Brewers Yeast tablets every day, they hate the taste and won't bite you. Need to take them for a while to build them up in your system first, so take other precautions for a while too.
