I'm using Windows XP and I'm getting the message "To help protect your computer windows has closed this program - Windows Explorer - Microsoft Corporation.

I presume 2 things might have caused this:

a) your windows explorer is getting crashed. It can be resolved by reinstalling a brand new windows explorer from Microsoft.com

b) there is Spyware/Trojan on your computer. It can be cleaned and wiped off by a proper software

I would go for the second one if it happened to me.

Good luck

you'll usually see that type of error message if the program you are using is attempting to access hardware or memory resources directly, without going through the operating system.

Go to McAfee.com, Symantec.com or Panda.com and run free security scans. Act accordingly.

Only download one program each for Antihack /Antivirus.

To start, open Internet explorer, go to tools on top, then click Internet options. In the middle section click "settings", then click "View Objects". Delete everything you see in there, then delete all temp Internet files. Go to add/remove in control panel, uninstall everything "Java", shockwave, flash. reboot. Then go to www.adobe.com download shockwave, Macromedia flash. Next go to www.sun.com and download new Java, all for free. Will be better in long run.

It's hard to say from your description, but if it keeps doing it over and over your best bet is to reinstall Windows. There is something corrupted in the base OS - perhaps some spyware or excessive installs....
Dunno.

b4 uninstalling, reintalling. it sounds like you need some sort of anti virus protection. i would download the following- http://www.lavasoft.com/software/adaware/
& make sure your security is up to date. if you already have these security features make sure they are good ones. viruses & spammers are finding new ways to get around anti virus software. so make sure you have a good one & that its up to date. good luck
