I've started looking around, but I'm not sure whether to go for the lowest interest rate, lowest fees or what. I doubt that I will be able to make any payments until I get home, so I need something that can last me 6 months without payments.
I have no idea, where to start so any help would be greatly appreciated. (I live in Aust and m travelling to Europe if that makes a difference)

Are you going to finance your entire trip. maybe you'd be better off getting a loan and putting the money in you bank account. then you can use the loan to also make your payments. Your loans payments won't change like they will on a credit card. Also, since this sounds like your first credit card, you might not be able to get a sufficient credit limit to last you 6 months. And I doubt they'll raise it if you're not paying anything for 6 months. I used my credit card to finance a 3 month trip, and when I do it again. I'll be getting a loan instead. But It'll still be nice to have a credit card, for emergency purposes.

I am not aware of any credit card that will defer payments. You have to pay monthly, but you can have the payment automatically deducted from your checking account. The min. payment is usually 1/24th to 1/60th of the amount you charge so it would not be a large payment. You could pay it down or off when you return.
Mastercard and Visa are used globally. It is a consumer credit card and I do not know many countries that would not accept. As far as fees and rates, it is easy to get a no fee card and most offer introductory low or not interest for a year. Good luck.

Hey..My best bet would probably be to go with American Express or Discover. American Express is one of the most widely used credit cards and easy to use everywhere and I think they have rewards too. On the other hand, it pays to discover with the Discover card. They have cashback bonuses and some other great programs. By the way, all credits cards have this plan where you can hold off on payments up to 2 years..give or take a couple months too. No matter what, do your homework before you decide on a credit card company. Hope this helps a little. : )
