There is no doubt about it, she is smart. I have four cats and a Pom as part of my family and many of the things that they do are similar. They will make toys out of just about anything. Mine will actually take each others toys...cats versus dog that is and hide them on each other. It is riot. My Pom is little, so she thought it would be fun to hide some of the cat toys under the couch, and has to work a bit to get under there. She works for about fifteen minutes or so and puts a bunch of cat toys under there and then lies down. The look on her face when the cats go under the couch and retrieve them all in less than two minutes is a riot. If she could say what the....???? I'm sure she would. The cats have retaliated by hiding her chew toys in places she can't fit and then she'll hang around this one spot until one of her humans figures out what is going on and gets the toy for her. Your cat is just entertaining herself. As long as she is not likely to hurt herself with the hair ties, I wouldn't worry about it. Cats always have a bit of a strange side, but that is what makes them so interesting and comical. Have a good night!

My cat did not like my room mate. The room mate smoked and dropped a pack of cigs in the water dish by accident. The cat saw how angry the room mate got about the cigs getting ruined. Every time my cat found a pack laying around in the water dish they went. so yes your cat is smart. Who know why she does it, but it makes her happy and really does not hurt anything. Gives you both something to do. She drops , you retrieve. don't do anything let it be.

Hi Gina...this is truly cute to observe. I've seen this quite frequently with the variety of exotic cats we train as they like to play in the water with their toys and put their food in their water fountains so perhaps a domestic cat may have inherited a little of this fascination. The exotics naturally love to play in water unlike most of the domestic cousins.

Just be sure to hide those hair ties from your kitty so she doesn't accidentally ingest any of them and only give them to her when you can supervise the play time safely.

I burst out laughing when I read this. Cats have very different personalities just like humans do. It's similar to when a cat will bat a mouse around before finally killing it. They are predatory animals. I'm not sure what she sees in hair ties, but I think her behavior is normal....for a cat.

I am going to go with smart, cute, and funny. Our Cats love to get up on the counter and get the lids to the water bottles We wash and reuse. You can hear Them sliding Them around on the kitchen floor, next thing You know it is a free for all. Then all of the sudden it either gets really quite, and They have collectively lost it under the stove, or in some nook They can't retrieve it from, or We hear plunk, and it is in Their ceramic water bowl. Maybe They just made two points. lol.

God Bless and Thanks for making Me Smile

Well, if she's able to get 5-10 of them a day away from you, then I'd say she's pretty smart. lol. And, that's just adorable! My cat has a passion for rings that come off of the milk gallon. I found 56 of them under the refridgerator when we moved. :)

this is what i've tried to tell people for years, all the animals are smart and each has its own distinct personality, it's the people who aren't smart enough to recognize what the animals are doing, right?
we had a wonderful cat that had a thing for marbles, she liked to put them in the bathtub and play, it was like a pinball machine, she would fetch and carry them around in her mouth, then she had kittens and she would put the marbles in her nest with the babies, as soon as the babies could run around on their own she would take them to the bathtub but we never had another to play like she did

I think that is cute! I've never had a cat put anything in a water dish. You just need to keep them out of her "reach" or limit her to one a day!
