GM is outting its money out there to prove they have as good quality as other (read japanese) brands. You see it posted everywhere: "GM builds crap", even though the real story is GM initial quality is as high or higher than supposedly superior foreign brands. So here's a real offer from GM - 5 years / 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. The bonus is it's fully transferrable to future owners at no cost, and it includes roadside assistance.
BTW, Hyundai offers a 10 year warranty, but can someone explain to me why their resale values are in the toilet?

GM adopted this idea after several of us employees suggested it to help slumping sales as we were confident in our products and the way we build them . and since most of us have been transferred around the country and have vehicles with 150,000 to 375,000 miles on them we felt that GM could back up their cars and light trucks with a much longer warranty. Funny how people think the japs do it better because right now the only 2 manufacturers that have MAJOR RECALLS are Toyota and Honda(Check the Detroit Free Press or www. freep.com)

I have had a new GM every 3 or 4 years for the last 20 years and have had good luck. Maybe I don't keep them long enough to have major trouble. Currently have an 03 SUV and 04 Pickup. No trouble yet.
Fords are the ones with the transmission troubles at 40,000 mi.

We had a Chevy van that had bad transmission after a year and the warranty expired by 35,000 miles. It's horrible!Cost us close to $3k to have it fixed and not to mention the hassle! It kept on breaking down in the middle of the road. It was pathetic. After the last straw, we traded it in for a Toyota and swore NEVER EVER EVVVVERRR buy GM again. Doing a 5 year 100,000 mile warranty will not bring us back. We've been burned. That move is too late. It's like a bad relationship - it'll never get better and getting married won't solve the problem.

Personally, I Love GM products up to the mid-90's since the stuff was built damn good. However, I've noticed on auto forums that a lot of newer GM products seem to fail faster and more common due to poor workmanship/materials whereas the older cars fall apart due to use in their long life spans.
As for 100k, 5 years warrany I think GM is shooting themseleves in the foot unless their new stuff is really really good quality compared with the last several years.

well as for all extended warrantys look at how long it is. 5 years ok good, 100k? what bullshit, man. Most people like to buy cars and drive them.I have seen cars not even a year old pushing 100k.That's why they make money off of that.We the buyer get shafted.

Hyundai buyers are protected by a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, a 5-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, and a 7-year/unlimited-mile anti-perforation warranty and 5-year/unlimited-mile roadside assistance protection.
They could still do better, just to keep up with Hyundai. It's kind of sad that South Korea offers America's best warranty.

I wouldn't own another GM product if it was bought for me.
Pontiac (4) = POS
Buick (2) = POS
Chevy (3) = POS
Olds (2) = POS
Nothing but imports for me, from now on.
