You can do something about it. Buy an electric car. You can get one as cheap as $5000.

Here are some cheap ones. These are old gas cars - they had good bodies but bad engines - so the engines were removed and brand new electric drives installed:

If you want something with newer technology, wait until next year. Here's an interesting one, it gets 200 miles per charge, and costs $28500:

Driving electric is CHEAP. The electricity to power your EV is only about a penny per mile. Gasoline is around 10 cents per mile and rising. You don't have to be green to see the value in that.

Yes very shortly. See the research being done by Mercedes, other manufacturers etc. As soon as problem is sorted out in respect of storage of power in vehicles and there recharging they will be commercially available. Till then lets contribute by using public transport to prevent congestion on road and lesser pollution

Yes, there are already electric vehicles on road but costly and technology needs to be improved. prime movers are the electric motors. sources of electrical energy like lead acid battery or expensive bulky and need more maintenance. so the the ultimate battery is a fuel cell utilising hydrogen and oxygen and releasing fresh water[works exactly reversal of electrolysis of water where we pass current through water and take hydrogen and oxygen]. Fuel cells for commercial use are on the way. alternate power source is from solar cells in tropical countries. there is another hope of receiving electricity wirelessly from sky, space based solar panels which transmit power to earth via microwave radiations.
good luck

ofcourse there will be electric vehicles...in the US and some parts of Europe there are already electric hybrids and electric cars being driven. They are merely in the early development stages I guess, but having them totally take over the gas powered vehicles will take a lot of time and wont happen competely but electric powered or if possible hydrogen powered vehicles will take over the market in the near future like with in 15-20 years.
