No country is, every was, or ever will be "safe" from terrorism.

The best we can accomplish is to root out those governments and groups that support terrorism and destroy them.

This war is thousands of years old. It will not end overnight. Wars take years. See every war of the 20th century. The war lasts 5-10 years, but the rebuilding lasts much longer. Think about it, Iraq is the first freely elected country in the Middle East. There is no democracy there. They have no idea what it is or how to deal with it.

The only way to end this is through victory with military force. The terrorists want to kill us. It is stupid if people think that we can negotiate. Here is how I fight the enemies we have

1. Iraq-continue to teach the Iraqis to take care of themselves. It will take a few more years. Slowly let them take over.

2. China-they are a big problem. They are communist and fund our enemies. We take care of them with 1 law: The Fair Tax. This would eliminate all taxes on labor and capital. Manufacturing will fly back here because it will be so cheap to work here. No more waiting 30 days for stuff to get here via boat from China.

3. Venezuela, Iran, and Syria. The problem here is oil. Drill for oil in America. Eliminate the 50 blends that exist on gas. Gas prices will plummet and we will slowly have what we need domestically. Buy what we need from our real allies. Venezuela and Iran will fall apart because oil money is keeping them afloat. End our welfare of these countries. We did this in the Palestinian area and they are falling apart. If we do not give money to non-free countries, they will fall apart and free markets take over. With free markets comes freedom. No blood shed needed. Syria will fall if Iran does. We must however be willing to wipe out Iran with force. There is no peace. Violence is the answer. We are the 800 pound gorilla and we need to start throwing this around. Countries will behave if they fear us.

A huge mistake the President has made is not setting proper expectations on this war. Pres. Bush has not addressed the American people enough or put the deaths and injuries in perpective.

Will we ever find a resolution to end the wars conflict to make peace with the rest of the world? Well, we are at peace with the rest of the world. We are still at war with a people who proclaimed war against us years ago. These people are unified by a belief, not a national flag. As such, they reside all over the world to include the United States. This type of war is not easy to fight, and even more difficult when you have segments of our population who don't believe we are at war, don't care if we are at war, don't really believe our enemy wants to kill us, believes if we had a different President "they" would no longer want to kill us, etc.

Terrorism is handled on a case by case bases. Find out the terrorist core motivation and deal with it. Don't just say Islam evil christian good that gets you no where. In this case the key is in Palestine solve the war between the Alsatians and Israel and they loss a major driving force for the jihadist cause. I believe strongly that is the way to peace in the middle east unfortunately Conservatives run the show in Washington and only make things worse with there evangelic view of the world.

Bound's hubby here:

Yes, the country can be safe from terrorism, especially if the law-makers are willing to enforce the laws. What we must do is recognize that the current "War on Terrorism" is focused on those who would train and equip terrorists who wish ill-will on the US ... and that war, along those parameters is being successful.

However, the aspect that our government officials miss is that many "terrorists" may already here. It is the terrorists that are here we must not only fear, but removed from American soil. Therefore, Washington, D.C. must make concerted efforts to remove "illegals" from the nation, since they serve a greater threat.

Illegals, those persons that have either entered the country illegally, or who have remained in the country illegally must be deported. These deportations will remove the greatest threats to our national security and serve as examples for our unwanted guests that they are not welcome and will be dealt with.

With the elimination of alien terrorists, then the home-grown "domestic" terrorists can be dealth with as the criminals that they are.

In reading some of the more reasoned books and articles on this subject, I believe that if the U.S. were to start respecting Islam more and showing by our actions that we don't want to threaten Islam, that will go a long way in stopping Islamic violence - or at least the young men and women who become al Queda's cannon fodder.

I'm not sure if bin Laden will ever stop, though. I read one book in which the analyst said that bin Laden is fighting a defensive jihad, not an offensive one, based on U.S. actions around the world toward Muslims. This analyst doesn't believe that bin Laden hates Americans and other Westerners per se, so much as he hates their actions and how they destroy Islamic peoples. Some examples are the victimization of the Palestinian people, the militiarization of the Arab Peninsula by Westerners, and our support for Russia and China in suppressing their Muslim populations.

You can never make yourself 100% safe from terrorism. It only takes 3 or 4 guys to make a bomb strap it on and suicide bomb your local wal-mart or mall on payday. The best strategy to fight terrorism is to be proactive. Taking the fight to the terrorist is one of the best stragies there is. Like you said we have been fighting for 5 years and its been 5 years since there has been a successful attack on American interests. The primary reason for this is that we are fighting the terrorist in their backyard so they cannot fight in ours. If you don't agree with me all you have to do is look back to the mid 90's and early 00's and count the terrorist attacks the succeeded on American interests. Here is a hint your going to need more than two hands.

With a population of 300 million and climbing, there has to be many "weirdos" among us who want to demonstrate their anger over something. Within the vast population of the world there will also be many more such fanatics.

Terrorists like Osama exist everywhere, and there will always be people who will follow the world's Osamas.

We actually fool ourselves when we think we can have a trouble-free world without "terrorists".

The smart nations are those that accept the presence of terrorists and employ tactics and strategies to cope with them.

One of the first things President Bush said after 9/11 was that this will take a very long time. At that time, everybody understood that. Now, with the Main Stream Press criticizing everything he does along with the Libs trying to get back in office, we have lost sight of that.

There has always been terrorism. What we call terrorists used to be called names like "bandits", "pirates" and the "barbarian horde". The names have changed, and so have the available weapons, but the threat has always been there.

There will always be terrorists and criminals. At least as long as there is hatred and fear in the world. Living in terror and panic, sacrificing our liberties to cower like rabbits, surrendering the freedoms this country was founded on in the name of security -- these will not make the threat go away.

In fact, giving in to panic and fear and terror, letting go of our belief in the greater good, these are the goals of the terrorists. They want us to be afraid. They want us to close our doors and windows, to hide under the bed, to allow the police to break into our homes and private lives so we have no liberty or happiness. This is what they want to accomplish -- us living in fear.

The threat is never going to go away. The only thing we can control is how we choose to live in response to it.
