I have a Pit bull terrier mix and when she sleeps it seems as if she's having a really exciting dream! She whimpers and makes noises and quivers. Is this normal or should I take her to the vet?

All dogs dream and they also experience REM sleep the same way that humans do. REM sleep is Rapid Eye Movement, this is when the dog is in a deep sleep and the dog is visualizing things from his day and his past experiences. If the dog starts to run or cry out loud, you can gently touch and rock the dog but try not to startle the dog awake as you may scare the dog, I emphasize gently place your hand on your dog and try to rock the dog gently and maybe whisper a few conforting words - when I do this for my dogs I get sleepy kisses from my dogs and I love them and then my dog will usually change his sleeping position and curl up next to me so that some part of his body is touching mine and he will resume sleeping.

Yep, it is totally normal! I never really see my 4 dogs dream, but my puppy dreams a lot. It's cute in a way yet I know it can worry you because it whimpers and make noises. It's normal so don't worry about it =).

If you want to know more about how or why dogs dream, you can ask your vet =). But other than that, don't worry a thing about it because it's normal =).

I know taking a beloved pet to the vet can be costly. Dogs do dream. I have 3 dogs and mine all do the same it is very normal. If you still are unsure call your vet sometimes they will answer your questions over the phone for free.

I think it's normal. My two dogs do it all the time, every night. I actually got woken up last night, because my 80 lb. Pit was dreaming that she was running or something and she kept kicking me in the back... hard!

It's normal. I've seen some dogs move their legs like they were running in a dream.
