Currently there are sex offender registries. What would you think about one for convicted animal abusers? That way, they cannot adopt another animal and get the offender the needed psychological help. There is a VERY VERY strong link between those that are abusive toward animals and those who are abusive to people. Most serial killers have a history of animal torture and abuse too.

That's actually a very good idea. Have you considered running this past your local representative?

pretty soon there will be a list for everything. and i say, good. if some people are "listed" i think anyone convicted of a crime should be. personally, i would rather have a list of people convicted of murder than a list of animal abusers. and the sex offender registry is not as helpful as it seems. most abuse occurs by people already in contact with the victim, usually relatives or family friends. so me knowing about someone 2 streets down is just going to scare me when they probably are not a threat to me. the "kidnap and rape" cases that caused this list are not half as common as the acquaintance type. so an animal registry could be the same, providing a false sense of security. if animal abusers can't adopt pets, and they have a sick enough need, well, they will find a way to buy a pet.

I think this is an excellent idea! I own an animal rescue shelter and it would be wonderful to have a list of convited abusers to look at. But I don't think this will ever happen. The only registry we currently have is for sex offenders. We don't even keep track of those that commit regular violence on people, let alone animals.

You have to be careful with things like that. While there are many people who should not be allowed near animals or humans because of psychopathy, there are also some really stupidly clueless morons running kennels and owning pets.

This makes for 2 classes of people that should never own animals, but they should not be considered the same type of people.

Agreed! I always feel that laws are not protecting enough towards animals. Animal abusers always get off light. Your idea is great, cheers!

I don't think it should be the same scale and scope as registering sex offenders, but I think some database kept by the animal agencies in question would be worthwhile.

I agree. One thing that has always pissed me off is that if a man attacks another man it is a crime, if the man being attacked defends himself it is self defense. If a man abuses and beats up a dog and the dog defends itself the dog gets put down. Hey retards out there animals are awesome if you don't like them don't get them.

Can I get a Amen from my people?

Hummm...I thought I just answered this question. I think it is a great idea. Animal abusers have no right to continue owning more pets.
