A lipoma, or fatty cyst, is just that. It is not harmful and will never become anything harmful. They are usually removed only for cosmetic reasons or if they get large enough to cause discomfort. They are believed to be hereditary so someone somewhere in your family has one or more. Also, it is believed that some can develop due to an injury. They grow very, very slowly if they do grow (many don't). Please don't worry about it. It will never be anything dangerous. It is just a tumor made of fat. (I'm an R.N.)
